Matt Drudge Breaks Up With Republicans, Joins Libertarians

Activist Post

Matt Drudge, the founder of the enormously popular conservative news aggregator DrudgeReport.com, tweeted today that since there are no real differences between Democrats and Republicans the only two real political parties are Authoritarians and Libertarians.

"It's now Authoritarian vs Libertarian," Drudge tweeted. "Since Democrats vs. Republicans has been obliterated, no real difference between parties..."

Drudge also asks his followers why anyone would still vote Republican. "Who are they?!" he asks. "Raised taxes; marching us off to war again; approves more NSA snooping."

Is this a turning point for conservative politics? Is the Liberty Movement of peace and privacy set to be catapulted into the mainstream?

Holy shit! This seems huge! How many conservatives follow this guy??? How many people check his site, how many people follow his tweets, how often to republican mouth pieces quote articles from his site???

on the same day limbaugh was talking bout false flags? hmmmm...my bullshit detector is on standby.

Drudge has the power to really hurt the GOP. They had better take note or suffer the consequences.

This needs to be retweeted often and far! This is another one of those moment where everyday Republican voters come our way. This is why Rand will win the nomination in 2016.

When no third party has won in 150 years you don't need to "send people out on message boards".

You should specify that you mean for President or idiots might think you meant for any office. There have been 111 different US Representatives elected as something other than Republican or Democrat since 1877. Recent examples include Virgil Goode (an Independent in 2000) and Bernie Sanders. Here in Connecticut, Joe Lieberman was elected to his final term on a 3rd party line after losing the Democratic primary (Connecticut for Lieberman), and this state elected a Governor on a 3rd party line in 1990 (A Connecticut Party.) And, obviously, Jesse Ventura was elected first as Mayor and then as Governor from the Reform Party.

You know, eventually we should try our luck with the Democrats, ie RJ Harris in OK. The LP is a non-starter. It's a protest vote. We all know that, but for everyone with their big girl panties on, the Dems are worth a shot, especially if the GOP keeps insisting on fucking up and alienating EVERYONE in their incredible shrinking teeny tiny tent.

I'm not discounting why the libertarian position is known and I do give credit to Ron and Rand for that.

Whenever someone pushes the agenda that 3rd parties are worthless, I start to think they might be working for the 2-party monopoly.

My biggest problem with the Conservative side is they think the word "libertarian" is some crazy drug conspiracy nut that wants to smoke Pot.

I'm tired of Libertarian being some sort of DIRTY word.

Forget about Voting Libertarian or not, the point is, that POSITION should not be looked at like some crazy person.

So when someone of some SERIOUS credibility amongst the Conservative base, actually says something POSITIVE about Libertarians, I see this as a GOOD THING.

That kind of credible voice, actually can INFLUENCE people that, Maybe Libertarian principles are not some wacko pot smoking weirdos. Maybe they have some valid points.

Some people tune out others when they hear, "Libertarian." I remember in Dr. Paul's first go around they ALWAYS called him a Libertarian, like he was a fucking Leper, much to the joke of others. It was always the attitude, "How can we take this guy seriously, he's a Libertarian! ROLF!"

So now, when someone who CONSERVATIVES FOLLOW DAILY, says, the Libertarian way is better than this SHIT! I DO BELIEVE, it gives credibility to the Libertarian point of view.

I'm not referring to actually VOTES for Libertarian party, but to REMOVE THE STIGMA of being a Libertarian. I also think Rand has HELPED that as well. He may not be a perfect libertarian, but he has libertarian LEANINGS, and some of that has been able to get into the minds of conservatives without being SCOFFED at as a GOOFY KOOK.

I do think in 6 years the movement has come a LONG LONG WAY.

When I read the comments on the Syria news articles (there are so many per day), I cannot believe how many times I've read, "We cannot be the POLICEMAN of the world!"

That is a RON PAUL PHRASE! And when he said it back in 2007 the GOP candidates were like Crickets or they booed or they cheered Guliani when he'd scream, "9/11! 9/11!!!" and Huckabee would lecture, "We fight for Honor! For Honor!!!" To fanatical applause. And Yet...."Policeman of the world!" was like....WTF is he talking about???

Yet Now I hear that phrase used again and again. And I KNOW, it cannot be ALL OF US. It can't just be the same RPF's saying it over again, all over the place. I know that phrase has been picked up, and now people are starting to agree so many years later when they see this country is broke.

I've the phrase, "WE are borrowing from China!"

Another Ron Paul Phrase that I see people mentioning.

And of course BLOW BACK. Which is used all over the place.

THe point is, we can influence people with Liberty Principals, not necessarily simply voting Libertarian, but making people understand Liberty, and Someone like Matt Drudge suggesting Libertarian is a better way to go, does offer us the ability to OPEN MINDS that Libertarian is not some KOOKY crazy way of thinking, but actually about Liberty.

My biggest problem with the Conservative side is they think the word "libertarian" is some crazy drug conspiracy nut that wants to smoke Pot.

The following is a list of people that appeal to conservatives who oppose drug prohibition:

William F. Buckley: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gTyucBinXnY

Milton Friedman: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLsCC0LZxkY

Ayn Rand: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kh7Bg-mKKCY

Grover Norquist: http://www.counterpunch.org/2006/01/28/grover-norquist-drug-policy-reformer/

Pat Robertson: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQi7A5MW2kQ

Thomas Sowell: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZbHndilYsI

That should be enough to at least make them think twice.

But Mr. Drudge, who would vote Democrat? Reason? Why did Matt's original Tweet focus on shaming only republicans?

Why did Drudge say that the Republicans are marching us off to war?

I took it as he's speaking about "Boner" and Mcbloodcain. His audience is mainly republicans, so I believe he's just speaking to them.

Why did Drudge say that the Republicans are marching us off to war?

Because Drudge identifies as a Republican and has apparently realized that party is just as bad as the Democrat party.

And on the other side, you have those calling everyone "Neocon." It's like watching a sad game of table tennis.
