The NJ story includes ALMOST all of Benton's response, except the part where Benton calls Gingrich a Rockefeller Republican.

The comments are incredible. Ron Paul is dominating them, and at National Journal of all places. I sincerely believe a lot of the comments have the tinge of "f**k it, I'm in". We have worn them down and they know Ron Paul is the "greater than Reagan" they have always been waiting for.

i believe so. it comes from a desperate guy. his image among the electorate has been damaged. that's reflected in the polls. so his attack won't be effective. it might improve people's image of Paul.

Romney wants Ron Paul supporters on his side. He's delusional if he thinks that will happen, but I WILL pick Romney over Gingrich everyday of the week and twice on Saturday if I only had two choices and had a gun to my head forcing me to pick one of them.

My crude psychoanalysis is that it shows Ron is "bigger" than Newt and that Newt is on the attack. The reversed index finger seems to be a subliminal image of Newt flipping off RP in a crass way.

At least Ron Paul said at the last debate that anyone on the stage could beat Obama. Here's Newt saying Ron Paul is a toss up over Obama? That will go over real well....

Romney doesn't want Ron to attack him because every time Ron goes on the attack against a "frontrunner" the frontrunner finds him/herself in a free fall about a week later.

Excellent. At least we won't have to see Newt sitting there laughing and patting Paul on the back as he tries to steal his talking points, as if he's a friend to Paul. That was becoming sickening to watch. The past few debates and everything that has transpired thus far as removed that illusion. Paul has no friend on that stage.

As sweet it will be to see Romney fail to get the nomination, if things go according to plan, Ginrich dropping out of the race will be almost as sweeter. He's had it coming for a long time.
