Dr. Rand Paul considers 2010 Senate run!

No, it would give us MUCH more publicity to our ideas and would show even more that Freedom is popular.

I really can´t see ANYTHING negative in this...

I agree about the publicity, but it's misguided. Freedom is ultimately not going to be achieved through politics. If we were to get 100% libertarians in the Senate, why even have a senate? In the Philosophy of Liberty, nobody can represent you besides yourself- so the idea of representative government is already going against this principle.

i agree! Rand Paul SHOULD run! he has a quiet, softspoken style that may
fit Kentucky like a silken glove! his views also would dovetail with many of
the historic figures associated with this great state! i am really psyched!!!

I don´t think that it´s misguided, cause it´s the PEOPLES voice that matters in the elections. When people like Rand will get elected, it´s a clear voice from the people what they think. It will be the political turning point when we get enough people in, cause rest of the politicians will also start talking like the ones who will get elected. Politicians eventually MUST listen people to get elected.

“A politician will do anything to keep his job - even become a patriot”

-- William Randolph

I think we must work in the system to change the system, so getting our people elected would be the best way to have REAL CHANGE!

Haha. People who use the argument fail on every level. If it wasn't for politics (Ron Paul), I and most people here wouldn't have been converted to liberty.

Dr. Rand Paul considers 2010 Senate run! Bunning needs to

Jim Bunning and Mitch McConnell are our current senators.

I am so sorry... when will we see Jerryatric Park 5 staring those 2 fossils?

Rand Paul stated he will run but the gist of it all... Jim Bunning is NOT retiring, Jim Bunning is going to run in 2010, and Rand won't run for the Seante seat, unless Bunning is out.

The bright side, the RNC/GOP wants Bunning out. Bunning , for some reason is hated by both parties.

Bunning has narrowly won the 2 previous Senate campaign, so he'll probably lose this next one and he truly doesn't care about anyone but himself.

Rand should run against him in the Kentucky primary race. Aren't we tired of these fossils that only care about themselves?

Not to be a downer, but I don't get why grabbing a senate seat is going to move the ball of liberty forward. It's inherently a corrupt organization, so getting 1 or 2 libertarians in there really does nothing for our cause.
Bully pulpit.

A Senator is 1/100. A Congressman is 1/535. It's MUCH harder to ignore a sitting Senator than a sitting Congressman.

In fact, it may even be worse for us- this is an endorsement of the idea that we NEED government, when in fact the idea of government itself goes against the Philosophy of Liberty.
Again you are confusing anarchy with libertarianism.

There are rumors to the contrary. But who really knows.

I don't think they'll like Rand much better though ;)

I think either Rand respects Bunning or doesn't think he can win against him. Or maybe a combination of both.

And senators can filibuster!

It's okay to philosophically be an anarchist yet pragmatically support politicians in our current system.

Two people in the Senate speaking LOUD AND CLEAR to the People while exposing the corruption from within their organization...What could be better! And those two will likely be in agreement with one another. It will be like this mini coalition of integrity that the People will look to.

Maybe RP should run for Senate in Texas. Why not? Then we could have THREE!

He actually tried that back in 1984, even giving up his House seat to do so, but was (obviously) defeated in the GOP primary by Phil Gramm.

The world would likely be a much better place if he had won that race.

I know, but that was 1984. Why not run again? He's way more popular now and the political conditions are optimal.

Looks like this is starting to build some steam. Bunning is open to meeting with Rand about the seat!

Associated Press - February 27, 2009 5:44 PM ET

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - U.S. Sen. Jim Bunning says he is willing to meet with Rand Paul, son of U.S. Rep. and former Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul of Texas, to discuss his re-election campaign.

Paul is a Bowling Green eye surgeon who expressed interest in Bunning's race on Thursday. He said he would consider running in Bunning's place or assisting Bunning if he stays in.

Bunning said in a statement Friday that he is running for re-election. But he said he'd be happy to meet with anyone who wants to join his "winning team."

Bunning has won election to the Senate twice, both times by razor-thin margins, and some Republican leaders, fearing he lacks the political muscle to survive a third challenge, are sending not-so-subtle messages that they want the 77-year-old sports icon to retire.
