Dr. Paul to receive two "pivotal" endorsements tomorrow!

I believe tis be the governor!

Lewiston, Maine (CNN) - Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul met with Maine Republican Gov. Paul LePage on Friday, a stop that was not announced as part of the congressman's public schedule.

"He called and asked to meet," Paul told CNN when asked how the meeting with LePage came about.

Paul campaign manager Jesse Benton said the meeting went well. It's unclear what the two men discussed.

LePage won office in November 2010 with significant tea party support. Shortly after, in January, the blunt-speaking governor sparked controversy after saying that an NAACP chapter could "kiss my butt." The governor later explained: "They are a special interest. End of story...and I'm not going to be held hostage by special interests. And if they want, they can look at my family picture. My son happens to be black, so they can do whatever they'd like about it."

The meeting with Paul, himself popular with many tea partiers, fell in the middle of a Friday schedule book-ended by a morning event in Bangor and an evening town hall in Lewiston about 100 miles away. The congressman also attended an afternoon event at Colby College in Waterville.

On Saturday, Paul is scheduled for three events in the state.

One step at a time.

I think Alex has it correct right here. Tom Davis is a big name in his state and not one person knew about it besides us on the forum and the few that readed it on the internet. So that is why it did nothing for us.

Agreed. There is also one other possible effect (only time will tell but) the more endorsements Ron Paul gets the more likely he is to get more. The race, especially the perceptual race, is about more than one state it's about breaking through the 'glass wall' of "unelectable/fringe" that the media has built up.
As soon as that wall falls it's a whole new ballgame and each endorsement takes a bring (large or small) out of that wall.

"Every little bit helps" as they say :)

I have a very good feeling about Maine and I am usually the type who expects the worst in every election.
Dirigo!

Prior to the New Deal, Republicans claimed "As Maine goes, so goes the nation." :D

Well i can say it has definitely crumbled. I rarely ever hear the 'fringe' comments anymore even by the most hardcore opposition. They know he is for real now and not going anywhere with more than sizable chunk of the electorate behind him. They still play the 'unelectable' side of thing, but hopefully that will dissipate soon too.

Ok so this LePage guy, from what little i am seeing from him and this whole NAACP comment, he seems to be kind of a blowhard type, with a bit of a tude like my state gov, and Romney asskisser, Chris Christie. Someone please tell me isn't just an older version of Christie? I personally can't stand Christie's blunt behavior and attitude, because it winds up doing more harm than good and he winds up insulting people most of the time and belittling them.

LePage is kinda like Christie in that respect. I like LePage. Contributed to him before the Republican primary in 2010. LePage is not PC. I don't really know much about Christie. Last year there was a long drama regarding a mural. Whiny leftists complained about LePage taking down a socialist mural at a government building. They went and protested that. Whiny leftist protesters don't like LePage much. Others like the blunt, non PC style. LePage was the tea party candidate in the Republican Primary in 2010, won over better known, more well funded candidates. LePage understands that people, not government, create jobs.

It would be fantastic if LePage endorsed Paul. We can then start talking about LePage as VP or as cabinet.

My guess on how the media will downplay big endorsements: just ignore it and don't report on it at all.

THIS^^^^^ - The more influential people have the courage to openly support Paul, more will come out of the wood work.

Maybe it's not going to be the governor after all?

Before the town hall tonight, the leadoff speaker mentioned the Tea Party candidate (I think Andrew Ian Dodge is his name) who is going to challenge Olympia Snowe, even making a weather joke about Maine voters who support Paul "doing some Snowe removal" in the election.

A warning to all Tea Party hopefuls in Maine: If you want to primary moderate Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe in 2012, you won’t get any help from the state’s newly elected GOP governor, Paul LePage.

LePage tells NRO that he will “absolutely” support Snowe, regardless of who jumps in against her. His loyalty, he adds, will “never turn.”

It seems funny that the Paul folks would rip the person to whom the governor has allegiance if they were seeking the governor's endorsement. Just saying...

LePage has personal loyalty to Snowe that goes back many years. People, tea partiers, understand this. Tea Partiers understand that LePage is going to support Snowe. LePage also knows that Snowe is not popular with tea partiers, and presumably understands that a legitimate tea party position would be to be anti Snowe.

I wouldn't read too much into some anti Snowe comments.

There are 2 tea party candidates, Scott D'Amboise is the other.

Doesn't pivotal mean big? Some state rep endorsing is pivotal or would endorsement from the governor be "pivotal"? I guess its all relative

I emailed C-Span to politely ask them to cover the events tomorrow, thanking them for their excellent coverage up to now. I offer a suggestion for others to do the same.

I don't mean to be a downer because I would rather get them than for them to go to other people...

But, one thing that has been steady throughout this campaign cycle...ENDORSEMENTS DON'T MATTER!

Whether they come from talk show hosts, state reps, congressmen/women, senators, or even Gov.'s of states....it just doesn't seem to matter. No one seems to really give a hoot.

Just my two cents...

Instead of relying on the media, the campaign could run ads with the actual endorsement. Even make it kind of look like a news report/update.
