Doug Wead: Rand Paul for President 2016

Please Doug, Please be his campaign manager. I'm done with Benton

6 months ago I really didn't like Rand... I have come to warm up to him since.

If he has Benton apart of his staff in any way shape or form I will refuse to donate or help at all.

this. this. this. this.

also. There will never be another Ron Paul. We will probably never have anyone that pure and honest and humble and full of integrity ever again. However, there is a different sort of excitement around Rand already. To me its this feeling that was never really there with Ron. Ron inspired and educated, and as much as we fought and as much as I donated and believed in him, most of us knew deep down that they would never let him win. With Rand I feel like there is a real possibility that he could actually win, and that is extremely exciting.

We in the Liberty Movement will have to decide whether we are willing to become more than theorists but also successful, winning, political activists. Some of the debates will get scary as our candidate may decide that we need to cut our military bases from 900 to 75, instead of zero. He will be backing us away from the abyss, on his own timetable and it may be too rapid for the general public and not enough for some of us.

This is where it will get dicey for the all or nothing crowd. Can we be what we once were if Rand doesn't go "all the way" on some issues?

I would like to expand on this:

There are actually two perspectives here on the forums.

One comes from the people who have been involved in the liberty movement since long before Ron's presidential run in 2008. (and when I say 'involved', i mean on the activist/political level... not just registered libertarian and arguing politics on mirc.) this perspective is of older people who have witnessed and been part of many different liberty campaigns... like clark, browne, badnarik... or more local campaigns like vinson mouser or t. lee horne. these people have seen pure anarchs and gop-lites. the crazy and the crazier. people who realize through all these events that Ron Paul is really unique, one in a million. But that many people who came before him... and don't quite measure up to him were still great candidates. Ron was Apex, but that doesn't mean we can't get good... and always strive for apex.

the other perspective comes from the liberty chicks. the newborn to political reality. they didn't get involved in politics until ron's 2007-2008 campaign.
Ron, in a way spoiled the child. This perspective would think, "All candidates should be ron paul, and if they aren't then i won't play."
There is no long term perspective or long time horizon to see that the perfect can kill the good.

In the next 4 years, despite all our forum flaming arguments.... there will still be people who expect every politician they support to be a ron paul clone... and in the end, will be working against the good. the frustration will be tense.

excellent post.

I love that guy.
His article definitely put a smile on my face - first one all day.

You must spread some reputation around before giving it to torchbearer again.

This is the issue really... I think they're already banking on losses but the question becomes how many other voters come over because of it?

In their lust for power, the GOP will want to secure at least most of the coveted undecided/independant/third party vote. They are starving for a win and are finally realizing that if they don't adapt they will suffer the same fate as the WHIG party. We'll use their lust for power to finally get us to the adult table. We've been preaching and pontificating at the kiddie table for too long and for what? Time to settle down and await the invitation to the real negotiating table. That invitation will be addressed to Rand, but it will include all of us, and we will have our victory.

If Rand is going to consider it , he'll be visiting Iowa again soon and more often.

I'm inspired. How do we get involved in the local infrastructure of the party. I live in a very D county in Ohio, was a cofounder of our teenage Republicans years back so I assume it would be pretty easy for myself to get involved. Precinct committee and what not? I'm clueless, and I want to get started on the ground lol.

Know that you are more valuable than others, because an apathetic GOP county is less likely to send delegates, and most state leadership elections are 'weighted' so if you are the only one from your county to show at State, you vote your entire delegation. One guy could potentially cast 10 votes.

so i take it all those new GOP rules are not in force???

They are, but mostly irrelevant without an incumbent (R). They would have been a near impossible hurdle. Now they are a wee little speedbump.

And a Rand Paul nominee with his delegates could easily undo them.
