Don't let Ron Paul fail to get on the Pennsylvania ballot

I just got a call from PA. The coordinator there is not happy with our margin for error so the effort to collect more sigs needs to continue. Lets try not to confuse issues regarding different petitions, nor get into blame games, lets just get more sigs. Thanks
 
I just wish they had been more clear earlier because we're getting panic messages from our local coordinators and I'm worried that things are going to get sloppy if the campaign doesn't turn down the heat.

I really want to tip my hat to all of the foot soldiers in PA who worked their ASSES off to meet the deadline. All of you deserve major PROPS for doing all of this in such a short span of time. It would have been very embarrassing for us to have missed the ballot in PA. About as embarrassing for us as it was for newt and santorum in the multitude of states that they missed.

Congratulations, PA Ron Paul Supporters in PA. Great Work!!!

Now, does anyone the next State we need to worry about.

And do we have an after action report from those on the ground in PA to share about how to correct what happened. Was it the Campaign? lack of coordination with the Grassroots? other issues?

We all really need to learn from this event and fast.

I was thinking about this a bit last night. PA is super particular about who has to sign, how they sign, and who witnesses their signature so it does complicate things. For Ron Paul you had to be registered GOP in the county that is listed on the petition. Delegates are trickier. Those require 250 signatures from registered Republicans in the right CD.

A big problem we've always had is a lot of people who love RP enough to give him $$ are still registered Libertarian, Constitution party or something else so they can't sign.

Another problem was that the campaign was not clear about exactly what they needed, they were just like "get signatures for Ron Paul" as though they would come rolling in in such quantities that there would be no need for goals. I think next time coordinators need to look at how many signatures were gathered in each county and try to create a tangible goal for each that will provide a statewide buffer against bad signatures and a little leeway if another county falls short. That way it will be much easier to ascertain if we are "on target". Ron Paul supporters are committed and willing to piss their boss off by taking a sudden day off to canvas but obviously folks aren't lining up to do that if they think all is well.

There was a supporter list with phone numbers that the campaign didn't release to anyone locally until Monday morning 2/13 along with the SOS. I understand being cautious but if they trusted me enough to provide the list in a crisis they should have done so a week ago so I would have had a chance to call all of the hundreds of folks on the list. As it was I was only able to make it half way through and encountered many "Oh really? Gosh, I wish I had known he didn't have enough. I just can't make it tonight (work, kids, an hour north of the city babysitting, etc) but would have been able to come earlier this week if I'd known".

Also, some of the chaos was just little attention to detail things, like if you are circulating petitions and we are counting on your totals we must have a phone number for you that you answer or check voicemail from daily so we can get updates and coordinate with you to get your signature sheets notarized.

those are good points.

Also, grass roots has previously asked for targets earlier, and we were told they had this under control. I understand you can't START getting signatures before a certain point, but it seems to me people could start arranging their schedules and stuff and organizing before that point.

You are 100% right on that. Lots of "we have this under control", "we have this taken care of" before the "AAAAAAAhhhEMERGENCY!" stuff on Monday.
