Donald Trump, Unofficial Presidential Candidate

Donald Trump, without actually claiming that Obama was not born in the United States or that the President is engaged in a coverup, is trumpeting the birther issue in his unofficial campaign for President.

Donald Trump Trumpets Birther Issue

Bob Adelmann | The New American
09 April 2011

...

When asked the inevitable question about running for office, Trump replied, “I’m a Republican, so if I did anything I’d do it, I guess, as a Republican.” However, he neglected to mention that not long ago he was a Democrat. Trump had switched to the Democratic Party from the Republican Party in 2001, and then switched back to Republican in 2009.

His political ideology is equally flexible. Since 1990, Trump, a billionaire, has contributed to the campaigns of both Republicans and Democrats — including (among others) Republican candidates John McCain, Rudolph Giuliani, Newt Gingrich, and George W. Bush; and Democrat candidates Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, Tom Daschle, Joe Biden, Harry Reid, Rahm Emanuel, Hillary Clinton, Anthony Weiner, Charles Schumer, Kirsten Gillibrand, and Charles Rangel.
...

Karl Rove, deputy Chief of Staff in the Bush administration, sees the birther issue as "Barack Obama's trap." If Trump continues to trumpet the issue, “It will marginalize him ... he’s falling into Barack Obama’s trap. Barack Obama wants Republicans to fall into this trap because he knows that it discredits us with the vast majority of the American people.”

Well good. Let Trump marginalize himself while we point out that he's more Democrat than Republican.

I think Rove is wrong or lying. Trump is in a position to spread the birth certificate issue far and wide and cause much damage to Obama. Unless Obama manages to produce a long form birth certificate, in which case he would probably get a huge bump in approval ratings. Rove is desperately trying to work the centrist RINO approach because he has no place in the new right encroaching on the GOP and threatening to remake it into a party in which he will be powerless and unwelcome.

Yes because knowing whether your president is a US citizen is some trap...When you run for president, there's really no process there to make sure all credentials are legitimate? This shouldn't even be an issue seriously, this is just another flaw with the system.

I think Rove is wrong or lying.

If the Republicans back Donald Trump and at the last moment Obama whips out the real birth certificate, the Republican party will suffer a humiliating defeat.

The gamble is too risky and the chances of success is slim.

Has Trump or Michael Savage actually given a reason why Ron Paul is "not fit to be President?"

its official, its electronic, and its going to make future debates highly interesting.
i honestly think donald trump's wisest birther quip is "thank you mr. president"...
