Donald Trump Jr. compares Syrian refugees to poisoned Skittles

Donald Trump's appearance on Monday in Estero, Fla., got eclipsed by comments made by his son, Donald Trump Jr., about Syrian refugees.

Tweeting an image with the "Make America Great Again" logo, he compared Syrian refugees to poisoned Skittles:

It didn't go over well. Dozens of people, if not more, jumped into the younger Trump's mentions, blasting him for trivializing the plight of the refugees and promoting racial profiling.

Thousands more hammered Trump's Skittles analogy, making it a trending topic on Twitter (it has more than 89,000 tweets)

Actually, he just compared three Syrian refugees to poisoned skittles, which is pretty tame compared to reality - but hey, I have a great idea. Let's pretend that Donald Trump compared EVERY Syrian refugee to poisoned skittles - then we can plaster it all over the media for several days and get Donald Trump millions of dollars in free advertising. Everybody knows the media lies constantly and they don't really care what their opinion is on anything anymore, so it doesn't matter how bad they trounce him people will just assume correctly that whatever they say is wrong and that Donald Trump must be doing something right.

Obama is standing up to this kind of fear based talk from Trump camp and has announced that hundreds of thousands of Afghan, Palestinian and Syrian refugees from war zones would be settled in cities across America. They will be thoroughly vetted.

That said, an argument could be made that some folks in war zones like family members of these little underage victims (that may be seen as human skittles by some drone operators) could be considered in a poisoned state of mind potentially although I'm no expert on blowbacks.

Was the suspect in this news today an example of one of those three "poisoned skittles" in the American skittle jar?

Police Identify Suspect In NYC Bombing As Afghani-Born Ahmad Khan Rahami
Sep 19, 2016 9:41 AM
Moments ago, the NYPD announced that it seeking 28-year-old Ahmad Khan Rahami of New Jersey in connection to the pressure-cooker bomb, assistant commissioner J. Peter Donald said. Rahami is a naturalized US citizen from Afghanistan. According to the DOJ he is 5'6" tall, and weighs approximately 200 pounds. He has brown hair, brown eyes and brown facial hair.
According to CNN, the investigation into both the New York and New Jersey bombings is leading authorities to signs of a possible terror cell in those two states.

This is actually a pretty spot-on analogy, this Syrian refugee contest is sold to us like a nice, tasty piece of candy, but like with Afghani refugees/immigrants, things kinda start to blow up.

Why are you even trying CPUd? Your rhetoric is not convincing anyone, you are just pissing people off. Why don't you try Democratic Underground for a change. I think you are being missed there.

Ask them @Skittles.

What is your opinion? Do you think they understand the definition?

Was Jesus a bad guy for using a fish analogy to compare people to? I think I'd rather be compared to skittles than fish.. of course the purpose of an analogy is not to compare a person to what you are using in the analogy in it's entirety, but to compare some aspect of or related to that object.

noun: analogy; plural noun: analogies

1. a comparison between two things, typically on the basis of their structure and for the purpose of explanation or clarification.
"an analogy between the workings of nature and those of human societies"

2. a correspondence or partial similarity.
"the syndrome is called deep dysgraphia because of its analogy to deep dyslexia"

3. a thing that is comparable to something else in significant respects.
"works of art were seen as an analogy for works of nature"

Indeed.. we already have to deal with crazy people that are hopped on anti-depressants. Now we have to deal with the ever increasing # of jihadi/terror attacks lol. We lose more freedoms when they start to act up.

The irony is that of all the migrants (Africans, Afghans, Pakis), the Syrians are by far the most civilized and least objectionable. But I have no problem demonizing them if that is what it takes to establish a policy that ends the flow of the far more numerous and problematic Africans.

Actually he did not say 3 Syrian refugees could be bad immigrants, instead he used 3 skittles in a bowl to compare the possible rate of bad immigrants out of the bunch of Syrians that may be coming to the US. Granted 3 skittles is meant to convey to the audience that he thinks a small percentage of them would be poison. But the 3 he used was not the actual number of immigrants he was talking about just the number of bad skittles in the bowl. Just saying

Does skittles know what the definition of the word analogy is?

You beat me to this :(

This is a much better definition.

A similarity between like features of two things, on which a comparison may be based.

You've been saying this a while, and I think you are proven right more and more every day.

It's becoming clear the media has no counter-move/defense against damage done to it's own credibility. Once people "see it" it seems they can't unsee it. "Conspiracy theorist!" only has so much mileage, and there's really nothing (easy, anyway) that seems to be able to bring a person back from the meta-thinking about the media that's working against them and seems to be snowballing with Trump.

It's an old analogy, and it's appropriate enough. A few immigrants or children of immigrants will become terrorists. It doesn't make all of them bad, just a very small percentage. The hysteria over this is ridiculous, unfounded and hypocritical.

Now if there was a bowl of Skittles, and half of them were "deplorable", then it would be OK.

I've heard this analogy before - probably here - but I think they used M&Ms instead of Skittles.

Can't remember if it was used for illegal aliens, or imported immigrants coming in from areas with an ongoing ebola epidemic.

Maybe Trump reads the forum or AuH20 is now managing the twitter accounts of the campaign people. Imagine if its the latter?
