Donald Trump has a teeny, tiny base

Anyone watching the Republican primaries has to be asking themselves if the entire country has lost its mind. If you listen to the media, it is easy to get the idea that Trump is inspiring a massive movement. After all, he is winning by a YUUUGE margin, right? Many people, both here in America and around the world, must be wondering: how can such a large proportion of the American public possibly be supporting someone so blatantly racist, sexist, inarticulate, dishonest, and, frankly, terrifying? For those who are worried about this, I have some encouraging news: they aren’t. Trump’s voter base is actually really small. Let’s break it down with the help of some sweet graphs.

Trump is racists and sexist? He supports affirmative action?

-rep. You are clearly trolling. Using that same argument I could say:

- Republicans have a teeny/tiny base.
- Democrats have a teeny/tiny base.
- Non Trump Candidates together have a teeny/tiny base
- Particular Non Trump Candidates have a teeny/tiny base.
- Rand Paul, having ended his campaign early with low percentages, has virtually no base.

Do you have the ability to compute simple percentages or perform basic math?

No one trolling here. Supporters of Trump like to make the claim there is this big groundswell of support, this way if he loses, they can claim they were somehow cheated; articles like this help put things in perspective.

He is only pretending to be racist because he knowing giving out that vibe attracts certain types of voters who don't really care about his policies or history. Just throw out that red meat and they would worship you for it. Those are the majority of the supporters that he is getting.

But it is all a ruse and just like with many of his policies, he would flip on the racist stuff, I think he is genuinely a sexist person. That one he has been consistent on

He is not racist. You are racist against whites if you think he is.

You guys must be trolling, Trump has gotten a lot more then 6%.

I believe the claim is that 6% of all eligible voters voted for Trumpster. I think that's probably pretty accurate. I feel (just talking to people) that among GOP types something like half support him. Of course ZERO percent of the demoncrats support him (or close to it). Using my gut feeling that would put less than 25% of "eligible voters" supporting trump. I'm sure my gut feeling numbers are give or take 50% (pretty bad I know but it still puts the issue into context with the OP).

That is why I said he is pretending. Trump is a typical north eastern liberal, he is very good friends with Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, he hires Mexican workers to work in his hotels and he is an uber Zionist. Those are not the credentials of a racist.

I believe he is a sexist but he is no racist, just a conman pretending to be one to gain votes.

I don't think he's a racist. But he's a consistent and vested neoconservative. That's my concern.

I think the alt-right would be very disappointed in a President Trump. Convincing them to vote for an eastern neocon liberal should be considered his greatest triumph.

Deceptive statistic. It assumes for one that all eligible voters have had the opportunity to vote for or against Trump. Most primaries are closed meaning only registered Republicans had the chance. It also assumes that those who did not cast a ballot would not have voted for Trump. We can only measure those who actually voted. In that category, he has received 8.2 million votes compared to Cruz's 6.2 million.

His "base" has been underestimated before in the campaign. Early on it was said that less than 20% of Republicans would vote for him- that that was his ceiling of support. He has since been above twice that amount.

Forget what the media tells you about the general election. People generally get swayed in the general election by voting against the person who they perceive to be the most evil. Look at the actual numbers at the general election results, look at Romney's polling.

At this time he was at 38%, so obviously Trump should do as good as Romney right? All Romney did was demonize 48% of the population, Trump surely couldn't have demonized a higher percentage. Wrong, he has, Now look at the 2012 GOP autopsy and ask me if Trump has improved the Republican party enough to be competitilve?
