Does Rand need to change for the next go around (2020) or was this just not his time?

I think he shouldn't run soon. He also is unlikely to ever win. But he is also the best liberty candidate, who could conceivably win, ever to run. The odds of finding someone better in your lifetime are close to zero.

He is certainly one of the top liberty politicians in my time.

As a candidate for President, though, he sucked. Like really really badly sucked. Double-reverse facepalm WTF are you doing level sucked.

Declare your candidacy and show us how it's done.

...people who weren't trained in public speaking don't sound so good.

...people who aren't comfortable with public speaking get nervous.

....then you have the Ted Cruzsters of the world who got the training but sound like fucking used car salesman homos.

Point is, it's easier said than done.

I think Rand changed his campaign strategy during his 2016 run, the further along the more towards his core beliefs. I think he should just be himself and let his intelligence and principles drive his message. I thought they ran a really good campaign in 2016. I fully expected Rand to possibly take first, but most likely 3rd behind Cruz and Rubio in Iowa. Seeing the results makes me think it is impossible to have a liberty minded individual win the POTUS at this time. And that as much as we try and disguise ourselves, the establishment knows we are outsiders, by the fact we are not insiders. So IMO Rand should just spit unadulterated truth and hope it catches on. Different times and different fields may yield different results though. I sure wouldn't second guess his choice to run a similar campaign in 2020.

I'll just throw this out here, though not directly what Rand "should do": many if not most of us found liberty through a Paul or one of a Paul's supporters. The enthusiasm in the face of power, the philosophical backing, we woke up, we read up (the Constitution, Austrian economics, US history), we spoke up. I will .stay involved as if Rand was still actively pursuing nomination. The sign waves in NH on primary day earned a lot of respect. After 2008, Ron's words were still ringing fin their ears when the economy took a big hit. Let's spread the message. Sign waves, debate attendance, town hall meetings...still waiting for Jeb! to come clean on the 28 pages. We must become the conscience of the nation.

Scott Walker and Rick Perry sucked that bad. Rand was passable as a top tier presidential candidate, especially over the last 2 months.

He needs to work on his delivery. Ideas are generally there.

Itching Ears and Empty Minds

He needs to work on his delivery. Ideas are generally there.

Of all the Presidential candidates during the debates he was allowed in, Sen. Paul was the best spoken, in both content and delivery. He sounded authentic, unlike Cruz, Rubio, and especially Trump, with their rehearsed talking points, psuedo-church-preacher styles, and empty rhetoric.

If anything, it's the American electorate who needs to work on its ideas of what the role of civil government ought to be, as well as knowing what the consequences are of fascist and socialist policies in a nation. Most Americans don't even read the Constitution, after all.

So the blame doesn't belong solely to Sen. Paul, though there are things he can improve upon, of course.

If the economy really tanks in the near future out to a couple of years from now, it won't be Rand as president taking the blame. Just looking for the silver lining.
