Does beer taste less bitter the more you drink it?

Beers I would suggest:

-Kona Pipeline Porter: SMOOTH. Whereas Guinness always feels kind of over-carbonated and empty to me, this was every bit as smooth with fuller body and more flavor. (Enjoyed it on my one and only trip to Clemson University.)

-Long Trail IPA: An unfiltered IPA with good taste but an even better finish - my biggest complaint with IPAs is that they focus on the flavor and forget the finish. This was this first unfiltered IPA I tried, so I might be biased (I enjoy most all unfiltered IPAs), but I enjoyed it more than Dogfish Head 90-minute....and Dogfish Head is a local brewery for me.

-Saranac Maple Porter: Some people don't like beer to have any sort of "impure" taste (anything but hops, yeast, malt and water), but this stuff is awesome. Typical porter with a thicker aroma and consistency due to the touch of pure maple syrup they add. Sweet at first taste, but balanced well with the bitterness of the hops.

-Victory Old Horizontal: The first barleywine I ever had. True to its name, this one will set you on your back - 11% alcohol, but it tastes more like a subtle wine.

Tried beer once or twice about three decades ago... Never again!

There's an old expression describing warm beer, "ugh, that tasted like warm pee."

I don't know for sure but I bet a cold beer tastes like cold pee. Nobody routine has to taste
it for "sweet pee" these days with the invention of urine test strips and those new fangled
blood glucose monitors, but I digress...

Why waste your money when you could just drink pee?

For me, I'll pass on the whole opportunity.

First time beer drinkers should watch this Monty Python...."The Philosophers Song"

"American beer is like making love in a canoe......":p

Of course I've been to Australia. If the Brits are gonna ban pint glasses as dangerous weapons then the Aussies may be sure to follow with the "Oil Can."

Geez, what did you drink, Michelob Light?? Seriously.. There IS shitty beer and there IS good beer.. I had a british friend in college who didn't like to drink the cheap keg beer that was freely available at parties, we all called it "piss beer". Usually it was Miller High Life, Bud Light or Natty Light or some such nonsense..

To be honest, he learned to drink it anyways, cause, well, it gets you drunk.. but everybody prefers a good beer.

Michelob Light??

Man, you must psychic. BINGO - that's the stuff I tried!

Now I need to go find me some good beer so I can get pissing drunk.

Then I can vomit and say (to horrified onlookers), "Don't you wish you were me?"

When in fact they are thinking, "Boy, I'm glad I'm not him"

My other favorite is gin and tonic. Get some descent gin (tanquerey, saphire, beefeater), get a short glass full of ice, pour a bunch of gin (about 1/3 or so), tonic water, and a squeeze of lime. Tonic water and gin are a bit bitter, but try and focus on the piney/sprite-7up taste.

Even easier to drink are margaritas, plus tequila messes you up really good. It doesn't taste bitter and it doesn't burn like other alcohols, but it does have a bit of an odd flavor as it is made from a type of cactus.
I think you and I must be related ;)

Gin's my liquor of choice and ALWAYS Tanqueray. Love gin and tonics but my personal favorite is a Singapore Sling (was also a favorite drink of Joseph Conrad). Not many bartenders know how to make them anymore. The best ones I've had out were at Chinese restaurants. I have a cocktail book with a very simplified variation that I absolutely love:

Ice cubes
2 parts dry gin
1 part cherry brandy
1 part FRESH lemon juice
soda water
slice of lemon
maraschino cherry

The authentic Singapore Sling recipe is long forgotten but usually uses lime, cointreau and Angostura bitters.

I also love Bloody Mary's, extra horseradish with a splash of Cholula. Gotta have celery but a nice green olive is an acceptable substitute.

Third and carried Gunny and Danno! Hangover remedy: Hydration and top-shelf liquor! None of the cheap stuff. Drink half as often and make the upgrade. It makes all the difference in the world.
ALWAYS specify what brand of liquor you want or they'll give you the rotgut well crap.

Long Trail is very good beer. The IPA is a fall back brew for me. The Double Bag is good, too. Most of my friends who aren't beer people enjoy Long Trail's Blackbeary Wheat.

Gin is a gentlemans drink. Don't try it straight though unless you like the taste of pine needles :p for mixed drinks gin and tonic is a favorite, Tom Collins mix for the ladies not more than one for me though, heart burn.

Has anyone tried Sam Adam's Imperial Stout?

I saw it for the first time the other night when I was picking up some beer, but I had already decided on Blue Moon's seasonal winter ale - which I recommend. I'm just curious if anyone has had it. I've never bought a stout in a store, only while out at a beer house.

Was not a fan of their Imperial Stout. Tasted like friggin soy sauce.

I like Sam, but this was not up to par with other Imperial Stouts on the market.

I have a good recommendation for this thread, though. Try Southern Tier's Creme Brulee stout. I think it only comes in the big bottles, but it is AMAZING.

Have you tried Redhooks Longhammer I.P.A.? Good stuff that.:)

No, I have not, will have to put it on the list. Thanks :)
So many beers, so little time, sigh. :p

Saw this at the grocery store tonight, debated whether to get any, decided no. Now that I have seen this post, I will try it next time.

OK Folken, I picked up a 6-pack of Red Hook "Long Hammer" IPA today, and on the verge of cracking the first bottle. Here's hoping phill4 and I don't have taste buds from different planets... :p

Oh my, that is tasty! Certainly not for the OP tho, not until he acquires the taste for hops. It's veeeery hoppy.

Bah, beer: common mash suitable only for peasants to imbibe and trip about on.

Give me a Tanqueray martini or Ketel One and cranberry.

'World's strongest' beer with 32% strength launched

A controversial Scottish brewery has launched what it described as the world's strongest beer - with a 32% alcohol content.

Tactical Nuclear Penguin has been unveiled by BrewDog of Fraserburgh.

BrewDog was previously branded irresponsible for an 18.2% beer called Tokyo, which it then followed with a low alcohol beer called Nanny State.

Managing director James Watt said a limited supply of Tactical Nuclear Penguin would be sold for £30 each.

He said: "This beer is about pushing the boundaries, it is about taking innovation in beer to a whole new level."

Mr Watt added that a beer such as Tactical Nuclear Penguin should be drunk in "spirit sized measures".

A warning on the label states: "This is an extremely strong beer; it should be enjoyed in small servings and with an air of aristocratic nonchalance. In exactly the same manner that you would enjoy a fine whisky, a Frank Zappa album or a visit from a friendly yet anxious ghost."

However Jack Law, of Alcohol Focus Scotland, described it was a "cynical marketing ploy" and said: "We want to know why a brewer would produce a beer almost as strong as whisky."

The beer has been launched on the day alcohol was at the top of the political agenda with the unveiling of the Scottish government's Alcohol Bill including proposals for minimum pricing on drink.

Meanwhile, BrewDog's plans for a new headquarters to produce millions of bottles of beer a year have been approved by Aberdeenshire Council.

The decision was taken at a full council meeting despite having been recommended for refusal by officers because the site at Potterton, near Aberdeen, is in the green belt.
