Does beer taste less bitter the more you drink it?

Portland Oregon has allot of local breweries. lots of good beer here...McMinimens one of many

I'll chip in here -

I've tried over 300 beers and I'm just now getting into home brewing. There is such a huge variety in beer that you shouldn't be quick to condemn all brew as foul tasting. There are a lot of types of beer that I used to hate (IPAs, for example). My advice would be to jump all around on the spectrum. Try a lambic or a wheat beer if you thought the Winter Lager was overpowering or bitter. Try a Guinness or some other type of cream stout.

You might not like any beer, but it's impossible to say after trying just one type.

I probably agree with this most, although not as experienced - yet. Everytime I go out I try to get a different beer just to try it, although now I don't really remember the ones I liked and the ones I didn't lol. I'm not a huge fan of IPA's or anything really hoppy, and like stouts and darker beers better, but after about a half of any beer I usually start to enjoy it regardless, and not just because of the alcohol. I love to sit down and just try a new beer, I just wish I had more money.

Wow.. Right now I'm drinking a 2' Below (New Belgium) poured into a cup thanks to LittleLightShining.. and the bouquet is really enhanced making the beer taste a lot better....

It is paired with some eggplant ratatouille, with tomatoes, eggplant and jalapenos from my garden and the rest of the veggies from organic farmer's market...mmmmm....

meal + beer = all organic

aww the days when beer didn't taste good...

try rolling rock maybe, you can easily find that. If you want to spend a little bit and have a wide selection try a spaten optimator or if your lucky and adventurous try a Taj Mahal from imported from India. Out of those 3 I bet there'll be one you like. Taj Mahal is pricey so I usually go for the german beers, I like the dark beers. Try that lol, there is a local brew pub/pizza joint here in little rock that microbrews. One is called the lazy boy stout... it's my alltime favorite beer. Very dark with chocolate tones they say. It'll go bad after three days so you've got to drink it.

find a local brew pub once you acquire the taste, real beer. Not the fabricated mass brew junk that has a shelf life. I love Samuel Adams the man, the beer to me is very overrated, better than some yes. To each his own.

MMMM that looks good. Havent seen any of that around here tho :( I only have seen 1554 and Fat Tire.

I've only had their 90 minute IPA, but it's one of the best!

60 Minute is a little less intense than the 90 Minute. Midas Touch is INSANE. Do not drink if you need to drive. Not even 1. I swear, and I can hold my alcohol. Red & White is my very favorite. They only sell it in 750 ml bottles.

Makes a world of difference! Glad I could help :)

I 'm a big fan of Spaten Oktoberfest. I've never had the Optimator but I'm not super crazy about plain old Spaten.

So, look for something malty?

I find maltier brews dehydrate me and make me feel crappy the next day.

That's good stuff.

Try pouring about 2/3 of the bottle in a glass, then swirl what's left in the bottle around a few times and pour it into the glass quickly. It should give it a nice head and bigger bouquet without losing a noticeable amount of carbonation.

I've had tiny sips of only two alcoholic beverages.

Busch Beer - nasty.
Mike's Hard Lemonade - taste way better (from only a taste though) cause it taste like, well, lemonade.

try non-beer alcoholic beverages.

Those were the first two I tried too :D
Hard lemonade is alright, just takes like bitter lemonade. All I've drank was (cheap) wine and beer, none of which I've liked, haven't had any hard alcohol which I was told is supposed to accustom you to the taste of beer.

The first time I drank beer, I thought it was disgusting and didn't know why anyone would ever drink it. It doesn't bother me anymore. I drink it all the time now. ;)

Mike's hard lemonade is absolutely nasty. It's way to sweet to drink more than one (for me anyway). I'd throw up from the sheer amount of sugar ingested before I even got a buzz.

Beer is good though. So good that I have trouble stopping once I start.

This is probably the best beer I've ever had:

It's very expensive though, so only worth while on special occasions. I don't care who you are though, this is good beer.

Hah!

It sure will... especially if you are drinking them straight :p it will make even bitter beer feel like you're drinking water.

If you're going to do hard alcohol, start out with mixers. My first jack and coke did not taste very good, but it got me really buzzed (mixed a bunch into a large coke at the theater while watching "Saving Private Ryan"). But now jack and coke is a close tie with my all time favorite. Hint: mix less alcohol, and add a squeeze of lime. After one drink, add a little more jack to your second drink. After your second drink, add more jack to your third. Alright, now slow down for at least 45 minutes or an hour, if you drink too much you're gonna have a bad time (especially the next day...). Of course always remember to drink plenty of WATER when you're drinking any kind of alcohol in larger quantities.

My other favorite is gin and tonic. Get some descent gin (tanquerey, saphire, beefeater), get a short glass full of ice, pour a bunch of gin (about 1/3 or so), tonic water, and a squeeze of lime. Tonic water and gin are a bit bitter, but try and focus on the piney/sprite-7up taste.

Even easier to drink are margaritas, plus tequila messes you up really good. It doesn't taste bitter and it doesn't burn like other alcohols, but it does have a bit of an odd flavor as it is made from a type of cactus.

And for heaven's sake, if you are new to alcohol, stay away from Long Island Iced Teas and Tequila shots!!! LOL

Seriously though, if you are talking about the world of cocktails, they have some potent ones that you can't really taste the alcohol at all. Jello-shots, buttery nipple, Pina Colada...

But I really like Crown and Coke to be honest... 8-) Followed by Beam and Coke.

Can't stand SoCo, and not a big Jack fan, but can deal with Jack and Coke if someone hands it to me. SoCo and Coke though, get discretely poured into a receptacle when my benefactor isn't watching. ;)

ETA -- I want to seriously second Dannno -- whenever you are drinking alcohol, especially in copious amounts, MAKE SURE you are heavily hydrating, or in the morning you will wish you were dead. But if you are very well hydrated there is pretty much no hangover at all (unless you get into the realm of alcohol poisoning, which is another matter altogether)

Ok, finally bought some of this Dogfish Head IPA (60 minute)... and also a local brewing co. Arbor Brewing Sacred Cow IPA to compare.... well, they are both okay, not dancing on my tastebuds... I still hold Skullsplitter and Warka are superior beers for me.

In any event, I believe I will be getting my drink on tonight :D :P

Third and carried Gunny and Danno! Hangover remedy: Hydration and top-shelf liquor! None of the cheap stuff. Drink half as often and make the upgrade. It makes all the difference in the world.

Use to be a Beam man myself Gunny. Went over to Jack in my 30s. Now I prefer Makers Mark. And usually straight up on ice. SoCo.....no way/no how. Worse than SoCo is Yukon Jack "Born of hoary nights when men struggled to keep the fires lit and cabins warm." DO NOT BUY their hype:(

Have you tried Redhooks Longhammer I.P.A.? Good stuff that.:)

Liquor before beer, in the clear.

Beer before liquor, never been sicker.
