I come from a large Mormon family. They are all Romney supporters. I talk to them about RP all the time, they realize how right he is on domestic issues, but I can't get them to fully get on board. They believe Faux News and say he's unelectable. Joseph Smith (Mormonism's founder) was a pretty good constitutionalist who advocated hard money:

I consider that it is not only prudential, but absolutely necessary to protect the inhabitants of this city from being imposed upon by a spurious currency…I think it much safer to go upon the hard money system altogether. I have examined the Constitution upon this subject and find my doubts removed. (Feb. 25, 1843)

Our own scripture says of the Constitution: "whatsoever is more or less than this, cometh of evil" (D&C 98:7) and we believe the Lord told us to "renounce war and proclaim peace" (D&C 98:16).

Our own leaders gave Mormons "the guideline a few years ago of supporting political candidates 'who are truly dedicated to the Constitution in the tradition of our Founding Fathers.' (Deseret News, November 2, 1964.)"

Many of our leaders were strict constitutionalists who spoke against the military-industrial complex (J. Reuben Clark, Spencer W. Kimball), the Fed (Ezra Taft Benson), and all government-forced, redistributing, social welfare programs (Brigham Young, Heber J. Grant, and many others).

The argument is easy why Mormons should support Ron Paul, but my family still supports Romney. They get mad at people who don't support Romney just because he's Mormon, but I say most of them support Romney just because he's Mormon. He's a disgrace to the Mormon principles of adhering to the Constitution and proclaiming peace. Another big problem is that my parents are friends of Mitt Romney and everyone in my family knows him. Yes, as Lew Rockwell's pol insider said, Romney is a great guy, but he's also a typical politician who will say anything to get elected. He's extremely faithful to his wife, lives a good and moral life. Sure, compared to people like Cain, Newt, and Perry, Romney is great... but they don't realize a Romney presidency would be very similar to a Obama presidency.

So, my family will not budge. Many have admitted to me how much they like Ron Paul, and I think I got my little sister to support RP, but they will all vote for Romney. I can't even get my own wife to vote for RP. She hates politics and doesn't pay attention much and says, "I like Ron Paul, but I also know Mitt Romney and know he's a good guy." If only people had depth to their political decision-making. I'm a failure if I can't even get my immediate family to support him. :p

Pretty good track record in my family:

Wife: Former apathetic, leaning conservative. Will definitely be voting for Ron Paul
Dad: Former Neocon. Will definitely be voting for Ron Paul.
Mom: Former Neocon. Will definitely be voting for Ron Paul.
Cousin #1: Don't know where he used to stand, but is now with Ron Paul (without much influence from me)
Cousin #2: Don't know where he used to stand, but is now with Ron Paul (With NO influence from me)
Remainder of Cousins: No clue where they stand. Extremely apathetic. Just care about hunting/fishing (can't blame them a whole lot there!)
Sister in Law: Last I have heard she was going to vote for Romney because she thought he had the best chance to get rid of Obama. I need to somehow get in a discussion with her about this, but I don't want to push it with her too much.
Uncle: He is a liberal in a very conservative area. I'm still working on him. I think he favors Paul more than any of the other Republicans, but I'm not sure I can get him to vote for him?
Aunt: She is a former Huckabee supporter. She's down to Paul, Bachmann, and Santorum as her choices. I'm working on her now about Paul being the only one with a chance of the three and explaining all of his policies in detail. I think she is coming around and will most likely vote for Ron Paul.
Papaw: Conservative (older). For some reason he liked Cain and hated Gingrich, but I was able to talk to him this weekend while Cain was dropping out and describe Ron Paul's policies. He was definitely misled and confused on Ron Paul's positions from just watching traditional TV media. I think he will vote for Ron Paul. He said "this year I'm voting for who I believe in, not who everybody says can win."
Mamaw: Doesn't talk politics much at all, but is conservative. She doesn't talk about who she likes and who she doesn't. Private on who she likes. Not going to push it at all with her.
There are several others I'm working on subtly, but these are the main family members I know about.
