They already did that Travlyr. Well in the military I mean. The US Marines have 400 training days per year. Somehow. (its around that iirc, ex navy here so just word of mouth).
I don't know too much about competing currencies... how does it work? Is there an exchange rate for everything? Will all businesses accept those currencies? My thought was that it would be akin to credit cards.
The only thing out of the deal I want is that the Government shall be required to make its payments in forms of currency that are backed by Value, not Debt. The people can use whatever currency they wish. Its the Legal Tender laws that force us to use Federal Reserve Fiat Currency because they collect interest on it. If we used Competing Currencies, then we could have an Interest Free Value Based Currency, that is one step towards freeing us all from the clutches of the Money Manipulators.
Exactly right. The question is why not use IOU's for Hours of Labor as an alternate form of currency. Labor does have value, but an Hour of your Labor may not be the same as an Hour of my Labor. If we were both doing the exact same job, it would be fine, but we all have different jobs, and each of those jobs has different demands from us, as well as different sets of skills. To say that all Labor is the same would create a system of Communism, where the Labor of both Brain Surgeons and Burger Flippers are worth the exact same thing.
Becker, I owe you a +Rep as soon as I get some more ammo. Remind me if I forget.
The whole thing was intened to promote the reason that we NEED a Gold Standard. The differences in Labor are too great to quantify. But the differences in Precious Metals are not. That is to say that one ounce of your Gold is worth the exact same as one ouce of my Gold. Where we got into trouble was that the Value of the Dollar is no longer controlled by a Quantity of Gold, and exactly as Travlyr said, if we measured in Time, it wouldnt be long before the Government and the Banks started insisting that 30 Hours of Labor could be performed in a 24 hour day, and that would just be the start of it.
