Discussion: Marc Scaringi or Sam Rohrer

They passed out Scaringi pamphlets at the Ron Paul rally tonight. He mirrors Ron Paul more than Rohrer. The other day I received an email from Bachmann telling me she supports Rohrer. That doesn't sit well with me.
 
Like Ron says you can't help who endorses you. Sam was endorsed by the Libertarian Party for his run for Govenor in 2008. I heard they were split on their support for Mark or Sam and went with Mark. If you watch any of the videios they both agree with each other on almost everything. Sam is the best bet to give Casey a run for his money. My heart is with Mark but I just don't think this is his time. I'm voting Sam whom I supported in his Govenor run. If we split the vote we will end up with Welch.
 
Rohrer endorses Cain's 9-9-9 plan and has said his views are closest to Santorum's not Paul's.

It should be interesting to see how it turns out. My biggest concern is that Rohrer loses by a point or two and those votes are sitting with Scaringi. While Scaringi does look good on paper, Rohrer has a record that we can look at as well, and that record along with recent interviews he has given lines up very well with my views both in ideology and methodology. Happy to say that I have done quite well getting votes for Rohrer here in my local area, so I am optimistic that he will do well.

I just saw that Mike Folmer endorsed Paul, but I did not see an endorsement for the Senate race from him. Folmer and Rohrer worked together a lot in the State legislature, so getting Folmer's endorsement will help Rohrer a lot in the 48th District.

Marc's definitely not going to win, that's the biggest flaw in voting for him. I have little doubt that the ideas that Scaring is espousing are the ones he would stick to in office but the problem is that realistically he won't be elected to office. And Rohrer could lose as a result of the relatively small amount of people that vote for Scaringi rather than him as you said. We can't just be absolutists if we seriously ever want to get our ideas about liberty realized into policy rather than just spoken about among ourselves, we have to be strategic as well. The establishment is very strategic, very willing to give a little as long as the brunt of their agenda is seen through and that's why they usually win in my opinion.

But if you read the details, I don't know that he does fully support the 999 plan, it seems like he just likes the 'gist' of it. That is, simplifying the tax code. And these major endorsements help him be electable. If Ron Paul were the only presidential candidate who endorsed him he probably wouldn't stand a very good chance of winning. It's unfortunate but it's also reality. I think that we could still make significant gains for liberty by electing him as he's the only candidate entuned at all with our views who has a chance. Bringing about the drastic changes that we want to see won't be an overnight thing, and getting a Rohrer in to me would better set the stage for making a more extreme liberty candidate like Scaringi actually electable the next time around.

If more young people would just get more serious and actually register Republican in their district and actually vote in elections we probably wouldn't have to worry so much about this crap.

I got a good chance to talk to Scaringi yesterday. Both at the lunch and later on in the evening.

I truly believe he's in the fight for the right reasons. (although, he does come off a little bit like a slick politician.)

I explained to him my fears of splitting the liberty vote and he was gracious and he seemed to like Rohrer as well. I have a feeling this run is about expanding his name recognition preparing himself for a future role. That's great! But if Rohrer has any chance, and I think he does, I'm not going to take my vote away from him just to help Scaringi's career. I'll do that in another manner. I'll help spread his message for whatever cause he engages in, but I'm voting for Rohrer.

Remember, part of the problem with the liberty movement is that we have a tendency to expect our candidates to live up to our own self-imposed purity test. When we do that, it makes it very hard for a candidate to coalesce the support. Ron Paul is extremely lucky to be able to do this, but other candidates really have trouble. I suspect this is why you see Rohrer trying to broaden his base by aligning with Bachman, Cain, and Santorum. I don't fault him for it. I hope it works.

Honestly I don't know why Scaringi didn't take a shot at his House seat first.
 
I hope those saying not to vote for Scaringi because "he can't win" realize they sound exactly like Romney voters telling us why I shouldn't vote for Paul.

I vote my conscience and I'm voting for Scaringi.

Yeah, but does Romney make the Constitution and monetary important issues like Rohrer?

While Rohrer is not completely aligned with Paul on foreign policy, he wants to get out of Iraq and Afghanistan. He supports the declaration of war. He supports civil liberties(anti NDAA and Patriot act). Yeah, he is different when it comes to Iran. But he is not a war hawk by any means.

To me it is like having Rand Paul and Ron Paul in the race. Rand can win, but Ron can't. Is it really better to support Ron than Rand in that case? IMO no if you care about real change.

That's very much how I feel. Of course I am not going to sacrifice all that is important to me to vote for a "winner" but if I have two solid candidates to choose from and one is a "winner" then yeah, I will vote for the one who has a chance in hell.
 
ughh i am reading post from people in grassroots talking about voting today. some are still voting for Scaringi. I know it is their vote and they can do what they want with it. But honestly if Rohrer loses by say 1 or 2% and Scaringi pulls in the difference i am going to be sick!
 
count me in the scarigni vote!

Ended up just writing myself instead of voting against Tim Murphy. Hopefully that sum bitch loses no matter what ha
