There's a fellow Ron Paul supporter that I just met and she keeps insistitng that if want the change that we should vote for Dino Rossi. This person giving this advice is one of the leaders of our Ron Paul group, so she has a lot of "oomph."

Why should I vote for Rossi?

As far as I know he has been saying that Washington will see a budget shorftall that will amount in the billions - kind of like New York or California. Except for '07, Washington has 830 mill. in the, I believe, rainy day fund. It is my understanding that when Dino was in the legislature he decried that we would be heading into a deficit, but that hasn't happened. Isn't he asking for a tax cut, too?

For me, right now, voting for Rossi is almost like voting for McCain, something I won't do even though I have been pondering laabeling myself a Republican. In my opinion, we should take over the GOP!

I'm a recovering democrat. Voted for C.G. last time. Not this time though. She tried to get 'check points' into policy. Luckily, it was met by resistance from the State Constitution which deemed this idea an infringement on civil rights.

She's done as far as i'm concerned. I'm giving Rossi a crack at it. Maybe he will stop whining about the last election.

The best reason to vote for anyone is that you agree with what they want to do.

That said, here's a couple of things Rossi says he stands for:

He's committed to responsible state spending
He has state budget development experience in the Senate
He says he doesn't like the 33% increase in state spending under CG
He refuses to allow a state income tax
He does not support or like a death tax
He wants to control state hiring of employees
He thinks we pay too much in taxes
He doesn't like the high failure rate of small and new business in the state

I think he likes the idea that some 400,000 felons, dead people and other inelegible people were removed for the voter rolls so they won't reappear again in this election.

But, it's your choice.

i'm hoping we can influence him. the WSRP platform doesn't call for reduced spending. if we can convince him that smaller government is better gov't, perhaps there's a sliver of hope. there was talk at a meeting i attended last night about encouraging the RP vote for Rossi if we can get more freedom and less gov't locally. it could be the swing votes - though my guess is that Rossi's good enough (or CG disdainful enough) for most of the RPers.

i didn't like that he wanted you and i to help keep the Sonics here though (and i'm a sports fan). but, so did CG.

Dino Rossi's not a bad guy. I don't agree with him on a lot of stuff, and some stuff he doesn't take far enough. However, he'd be better than CG, and he had the election stolen from him in 06.

As far as influencing Dino; Snohomish County is sending 32.3% of delegates to the State convention as Ron Paul delegates, and 53% are Alternate delegates. I think similar things are happening across the State.

If you Google his name it will take you to his campaign web page. It gives a lot of information about him. Interestingly, he did a lot of his growing up around Edmonds and Mount Lake Terrace. I did some of the same in my growing up days but in an earlier era before we had I-5. During my high school days my folks moved back to southern Oregon where I stumbled into this life on my family's homestead. That gives me a comparison between the schools I attended. Washington schools were far more interested in individual student achievement that I experienced in Oregon. Dino's family background has a lot to do with schools so he might be a good choice on that level.

Dino took on the matter of state budget when he was in the state Senate and it was a mess. He worked hard on it ended up with a balanced one. Then attacked the deficit and built up a reserve. That's good unless the change over-taxed everyone. I think it was achieved by reducing state appropriated spending. Wasn't he one of the people who got vehicle licensing costs cut way down to closer to reasonable? I think so but I was in Arizona for 7 years at the time.

On sports, Dino is part owner of the Everett Aqua Soxs. It follows that he would be interested in keeping the Sonics in Seattle - I guess. I think the market should do that personally. But, who knew? If we had been the same age growing up my Lynnwood baseball team would have been beating up on his Edmonds or Mount Lake teams. grin.

The big thing I don't like is a continuing barrage of Puget Sound people taking the senior state offices all the time. There is more to Washington than Seattle and the Puget Sound. But is that a negative about Dino? Just consider who the last governors were and where they came from. I don't think Dino has blinders on concerning Washington Fly-Over country.

Anyway, between the choices of Dino or CG, there is no question which one will get my vote. Meanwhile, I'll hope and trust that all those Ron Paul delegates will get involved and energize the Republican Party toward that message of personal Liberty, limited government, and saving monitary policy. If that happens, influencing Dino should be a no-brainer.

How does a Conneticut guy know Dino Rossi?

It was '04, BTW.

On June 2nd the Ron Paul campaign people from Washington are planning to have a luncheon with Dino at the Everett Events Center. Hopefully he will adopt some of the views of a liberty Republican.

I won't be voting for him or CG. I'll probably vote for the libertarian candidate. Rossi is pro Iraq war, and has been completely silent on protecting Washington State citizens from RealID.

Rossi pro-war?

That might be a deal breaker for me. Anybody who supported an obviously dumb war is lacking is something.

Not supporting Dino

I am a former co-chair for Dino and I will not be supporting him this year. I will probably vote for him. My friend says he would only vote for him at gunpoint. I am still seeing more Ron Pauol signs and very few for Rossi.
