I'm surprised anyone on this board would dare utter the name Orwell.

I am very sympathetic to his views, but I've seen VERY little here that would garner any noticeable respect from him in this regard. Orwell was influenced heavily by Trotsky anarchism and was strongly for Democratic Socialism. In my mind, his view of the political system was thorough and worth review. His

By today's standard, Orwell is a "liberal". Even more modern a liberal than myself.

He was against the Israeli state, and was strongly opposed to corporatism. The form of government that gets much testicle messaging here.

By all standards of the definition intended, the cry "socialist" should be applied to Orwell, but it is seemingly harder since his literature was so obviously contrary to totalitarian statehoods. Ironically, this applies so much more today with our growing fascist and theocratic government. Orwell was a liberal.

But you won't call him a "socialist", will you? The whole lot of you are hypocrites.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Socialist, yes, but also anti-totalitarian. Accuse us of cherry picking. Guilty.

A good argument for your cause is a good argument for your cause. Look in the Oklahoma thread and you'll see that I'm regularly quoting a Democrat. You'll also get a chuckle out of it. Consider it "big tent" stuff. Loosen up.

Yea, sorry. Your tone is soothing. I'm just getting rather ticked at the people who are so quick to label the liberals as socialist here... knowing and associating socialism with totalitarianism and communism.

Call it my preemptive strike against some of the more raving far right conservatives here.
