Did Ron insinuate that he might run 3rd party?

The question shouldn't be who would win in a Hillary, Mitt, Paul contest, but who would win in a Hillary, Mitt, Paul, Bloomberg contest. IMO, Paul does well under these circumstances. Of course, in that kind of scenario most likely there wouldn't be a majority winner, and the House of Representatives would elect Hillary.

In a general election he could easily get Barack Obama supports to his side when Hillary wins. That could secure a third party nomination if he can get in debates. I think another person will third party this election if its those two. You couldn't get a better time to do it with 2 pro war candidates in an anti war country. People would come, there would be time to move and the fund raising power would be immense with the combined forces.

I would've pointed my finger at the media and let them know that a 3rd party run would be due to their lack of coverage on my behalf and the remaining candidates could thank their upcoming ass whipping to the networks that tried so hard to shut me out as a legitimate candidate. We all know if Dr. Paul got half the coverage of the neo-cons, he would be a top 3 candidate as we speak.

Republicans lose regardless if RP isn't the nominee. They BARELY won the last elections. Then they had OUR votes. They don't now. We are a sizeable number of people and if we outright refuse to vote for the neocons they lose. Every election, forever. Their base is shrinking, ours is growing. We will eventually outnumber them again as a new party anyway.

There only needs to be a majority winner in the Electoral College. In your hypothetical four-way contest, Paul could probably win by getting 30% or more in just a few states.

And the House votes by state delegations, so I'm not sure the Democrats would be guaranteed victory. The GOP might actually have a majority in a majority of the state delegations, or at the very least there could be a number of split delegations.

That's exactly how I feel. We've done amazing things in the last ten months, and we're going to do even more amazing things in the next ten. There's no stopping now- Ron will win this election, independent run or otherwise!

That's the spirit!! It looks like Romney is about to run the table, IMO, so we need to help Ron do as wel as he can through Feb 5. Along with Mitt, RP is the only one with any money to run in these states. Think of Nevada.

Then, RP sits down at the table and the convo goes something like this: Pick me as your VP, or say buh-bye to the White House.

I'd like to see him punish the Republican party and run as an Independent or Libertarian.. and steal votes from the party. We'll have to make a sacrifice that results in higher taxes, higher spending and entitlements... but there will be a partial return to a slightly more responsible foreign policy.

You and a lot of other people on this forum.

This is getting to be silly, we all know what Dr. Paul said, NO THIRD PARTY RUN! He is a Republican, and he wouldn't be leaving the party... If you are not going to even listen to Dr. Paul why support him?

Everything is unlikely. Saving our country from ruin is unlikely. We do many things that are unlikely because they are the right thing to do. Even if Ron Paul got 14 percent as a third party candidate it would mean educating more Americans and expanding the liberty base for the future. Also, if he got such numbers as a libertarian it might mean libertarian candidates in debates in the future. But, and this is important, right now he's running as a republican and he's said that's his intention. So let's just stay focused and push him to victory. :)

No way, a win would be a guarantee if he an third party. Put it this way, if Ron Paul is on the general election ticket, he will be the president.

OK, I like Dr Paul too and I'm an eternal optimist.

But let's try to see this from the viewpoint of the neocons who currently run the GOP. Their calculation is that Dr Paul would not win a third-party bid -- especially if the MSM continues to ignore him -- but he would draw enough votes away from the Democrats to allow the Republicans to squeak through with a victory.

IOW, what I'm saying is, let's not allow our enthusiasm and optimism to set us up as someone else's tool. Especially *those* guys. Let's be savvy about this, OK?

If he ran 3rd party would he have any chance of winning? Can both republicans and democrats vote for him? And will people actually vote for a 3rd party candidate?

If the choice is between Billary and McCain, what do YOU think?:D

no, he said he wouldn't run 3rd party about four different times in that answer

how much clearer can he be?

I'm expecting the Democrats to run a Clinton-Obama ticket.
Tough to beat, but I imagine it's going to Clinton OR Obama with Edwards as VP after a brokered convention. I think Edwards would probably lean towards Obama though.

RP says he won't run as a third party candidate, but will he run independently as a Republican, regardless of the nomination?

That is the real question... :D
