Did A&E violate section 7 of the Civil Rights Act?

I'd like to read Robertsons contract with A&E. Seems most celebrity contracts have a morals clause....inflammatory comments about a group of people (collectivist mindset) is a common legal tactic to protect a business owner.

I'm going to have to side with the boss on this one. His comment were in my opinion wrong on many levels, but it should be up to the guy signing the checks....ultimately....

I understand you are seeing this situation from a rational natural law perspective, but- the CRA doesn't have exceptions for contracts and celebrities.
To say the CRA doesn't apply because there might be something in his contract- means you'd have to show in Title 7 that there are exceptions for contract exclusions.
I didn't read any such passage in that law.

If A&E came out tomorrow and stated publicly that it doesn't support the CRA because it infringes on property rights and contracts, i'd say we shouldn't apply such a law to them because they understand its immoral and aren't supporting its continued existence.
But, live by sword- die by sword.
As long as they support the immorality- they should be judged by its standards. They shouldn't escape the hell they help keep everyone else in until they start working against it.

So A&E's only option is to let contracts run out and not re-new. Well, yeah A&E has some work to do, and decisions to make. Principle over profits and likely going to court.

Yeah, they'd have to let the contract run out. and even then- the insidiousness of the CRA doesn't go away. If they robertson's could prove the reason they didn't get a contract renewal was because of their religious beliefs... well...
see how this law works?

I think we could get A&E to be against the CRA if someone went after them using that law to its fullest extent.

One more data point underscoring the troublesome nature of statutory legislation. True and proper law boils down to three things:

  1. Do what thou wilt.
  2. Bring no harm to others save in defense of life, limb, and property against harm.
  3. Be good for your word.

These would appear to cover all possible contingencies and serve as as splendid standard from which to assess the behavior of a man. It's only weakness, and this would be present regardless of the system of law one puts into place, lies in the ignorance of and evil living within the hearts of men. Anything, and I mean ANYTHING can be perverted, but of the great plurality of people hold knowledge close to their hearts and purity within them, goodness may endure. Today, a great majority holds that which is false to be true and/or marinades in the rank and evil - perhaps unawares, I cannot say for another. The result is "depends on what the meaning of 'is' is." Pure corruption everywhere one turns. Such are the times in which we find ourselves.

I'm one of those uncompromising Christian rednecks who just happens to be rude/crude and socially unacceptable and I find your characterization of me as a forum member offensive.

Don't like what I type? Too bad!

Don't like some guy on TVs opinion of homos? Too bad!

You are one of those oversensitive folks who feel it's your place to look down on people who live or believe differently than you do.....

Please sir, bring your pansy ass out to the Ozark Mountains and start spouting off about how you think the locals should behave.

Very few folks here give a fuck how you behave until you try to dictate our behavior, you'll be in for a rude awakening.

[edit]

There are enclaves of Jesuits, Nuns, Socialists, Homos, Christians, Satanists, Hippies, Rednecks and damn near any other subset of society out here in the sticks, we tolerate one another, we don't accept anyone.

And all of the various groups mind their own business.

When one bunch starts trying to dictate how another should behave genuine feuds start and they'll often run for generations.

Umm, nobody is saying he cannot say what he wants. I'm glad he is able to speak his mind. I'm glad he is fine going through life being an ignorant asshole. That is every person's right and I wouldn't do anything to stop that.

It is also the right of a business to cut ties with someone they decide negatively reflects on their brand. I believe every business should have that right.

Just to note, I'm glad you're so proud of being a piece of shit. I fully support your right and I hope you always stay the same. :)

whew...i'm embarrassed. My sincere apologies. It was PAT ROBERTSON that said that...

i am now slinking away from this thread in shame.

Over and out.

OK, what on earth did you eat to get you so constipated?

If you don't like an opinion - or a thread - or a site, why do you remain here? It seems you relish your apparent indignation... for what purposes I cannot tell. But when someone appears this upset about something but fails to do the one thing I know he can do to stop being tormented by it, which is to leave, I also know that something is failing the kosher test.

Happy Channukah.

Sorry Alec Baldwin, I don't turn around and run away when I disagree with somebody. A few ignorant Christfucks aren't going to make me leave this site.

No need.. I am not offended.

I seldom watch TV,, and had not followed the show, I only researched this at all because of the Hoopla in the news presently.

There are multiple headlines describing "Anti-Gay" statements.. And I could not find anything anti-gay in what he said. That is common from the Westboro Cult.
I did not detect that type of hatred in his statements.

What he said was pro-Heterosexual. And based on his faith.
It is being overblown by a minority that is offended,, for no good reason.

The problem with homosexuals, or more precisely their vocal representatives, is not that they do not know how to put LEGO bricks together, but that they whine, cry, and bob their heads to their Lord and Savior Government every time their damned feelings are hurt. They're like the busy-body soccer moms that just can't help but to say something every time they see something, knowing full well that they may harm the livelihood of their victim.

People are always going to hate each other for arbitrary reasons; government intervention will never change that. So some guy on television, who I guess is supposed to be a backwoods conservative stereotype on steroids, says that he does not like gays. Holy fucking shit! Call up the National Guard, we have ourselves a fucking emergency! Only a whiny bitch would take the time to contact A&E in order to make a complaint. I guarantee you that these same people would not take the time to contact an elected representative to, say, oppose military intervention in Libya or Syria. Oh, but as soon as their widdle feewings are hurt, they will go to great lengths in order to sate their vindictive egos. Fuck 'em.

For what it's worth, I believe that approximately 99% of the people in this nation are a bunch of cocksuckers.

And I sir am glad you're able to type what's on your mind.

I know full well you've not the balls or intestinal fortitude to actually speak it in public..

"Ignorance" means unknowing, not stupid. I've never watched this TV show but if some guy quoting the Bible leads you to call him "ignorant", I must ask what is it you believe this asshole is ignorant of?

I'll disregard your sleight due to the fact I believe your ignorance is showing..;)

Several lgbt activists have some pretty nasty quotes and actions that the media will never tell you about.

Gay rights hero Dan Savage:

"learn to ignore the bull$h1t in the Bible about gay people"

After he said that at a school some Christian students walked out. Savage call the walkout "a pansy-assed move."

He said this of Pennsylvania Green party Senatorial candidate:

"should be dragged behind a pickup truck until there's nothing left but the rope"

and this gem:

"I wish the Republicans were all f***ing dead."

Kentucky gay rights activist Anthony Casebeer on a lesbian activist opposed to transgender rights:

“nice home run swing to the head with a 38-oz. Louisville Slugger is more in order,” and that if the poster "ever saw [Brennan] in my windshield, I'll be wiping blood off my white Buick. But I won't be using the brakes."

Floyd Corkins attempted to kill members of the Family Research Council at their headquarters in DC last year because the SPLC listed them as a hate group.

Mayor of Fresno Alan Autry was threatened by gay activists over his support for Proposition 8.

And there's a lot more I could find, but I think I've made my point. There's a huge double standard.

Doesn't matter if A&E network violated rights... they'll just "BUY" their way out of any wrong doing...

So the water cooler numbers are in, $400 MILLION is what A&E stands to make off 'The Ducklings' via partnerships with; WALMART, COLES, and TARGET, alone in merchandizing. Imagine, $400 MILLION just on merchandizing. Then you have television ad revenue, with the ongoing syndication too.
