DC's only representation in the federal government is Eleanor Holmes Norton. She was unopposed for re-election last time. Dick Heller has agreed to let us circulate petitions to put him on the ballot to run against her. We need to raise a few thousand dollars this week to hire petitioners to get him on the ballot. If we fail, she will likely be unopposed again.

Long story short, he wanted to run on a fusion Libertarian-Republican ticket but was denied by the board of elections. Because of complications with the Supreme Court case, he missed the Republican deadline to file. Now we are circulating petitions to put him on the November ballot as a Libertarian with Republican support (the DC GOP HQ is collecting signatures on our petitions there!). There is a budding non-socialist alliance forming.

We need a few thousand valid signatures of registered DC voters and a looming deadline. If we could raise a few thousand dollars, the professional petitioners finishing up in WV now could come to DC.

If you could help, please contact me at [email protected] or send checks payable to "DC for Heller" at PO Box 77159, Washington DC 20013. All federal contribution rules on disclosures and prohibitions apply.

Be one of the first to stand up for the man who stood up for us!

It sounds like he probably won't do it, but a couple of TV or radio appearances would do wonders for that, as long as you mention money is needed for the petitions.

I mean, you could probably list 10 national TV and radio shows that would have him on. Just pick a couple that would be pretty much favorable to him.

Great job Bradley. What is the deadline for the signatures?

Thanks. We have until August 27th for Heller (and also Ron Paul delegate candidate Damien Ober who is running for shadow senator) but earlier and more sigs for Barr (their campaign "gave up" though in truth they never even tried and were, um, "counterproductive" here).

Several of us have been collecting signatures already. I got everyone at the DCYR meeting last night and Grover's last week, etc. (yes, Grover signed it himself--so have the DC GOP chairman, exec dir, council candidate, et al.).

Nancy is having a rooftop fundraiser for the effort on Saturday. Bruce is getting proposals from professional petitioners (we'll need them to supplement our efforts). James, Craig and others from the local Ron Paul activist crew are all helping out.

Yes, we are going to do it. :p We've got pledges for 1/4 of the money just today and scores of volunteers are out getting signatures (gratis). There is a big volunteer party Saturday where people are supposed to collect signatures first. The guy organizing the ballot petitioning's mother died unexpectedly Saturday which throw us for a loop.

Dick and Dane have been doing some media events including the Laura Ingraham (sp?) show. I don't think they've been plugging the donation part though, just talking about the court cases.

Feel free to mention it on the air as callers on shows though! :D

I saw Ballot Access News has Barr at 300.

Looking good. Another thought was that since this is a campaign with good name recognition and is actually endorsed by the Republicans, would it be up for funding from some of the higher echelons of the LP(perhaps regional or national)?

Yeah, that might be my fault. The truth is all three campaigns have all three petitions and getting their volunteers out separately. There are so many different people collecting independently (most probably just a handful each), that no one knows how many signatures we have or how many all of the volunteers will get before the dates we told them to get them back to us.

We should be able to pull it off for Heller and Ober, but it is highly unlikely that Barr will get on the ballot in DC unless we raise a miracle. Barr needs nearly 4k valid sigs in eight days. We need few signatures, have collected more already, and have more time for Heller and Ober. We are NOT complacent--it is very doable but not a sure thing without some professional help.

Ok folks,

The moment you've all been waiting for... DCforHeller.com is now online!

Well, sorta. As of this post, we have the snail mail donation page online, which will be the first of many updates to the website.

http://dcforheller.com/

If I were you, I would set this as my homepage so that you will always be up to date with the campaign. :D

Give 'Em Heller!

Also...

DC for Heller is having a fundraiser on Saturday the 16th of this month.

Please join DC for Heller supporters in the heart of Washington on Pennsylvania Ave for light fare, drinks, and an auction to help elect Rich Heller as the D.C. Delegate to the U.S. Congress. Rich Heller's recent Supreme Court win striking down the Draconian D.C. handgun law has paved the way for all American citizens' Constitutional right under the 2nd Amendment to bear arms in the home.

This event is an opportunity to support Mr. Heller's election to Congress in order to work for other fundamental civil liberties guaranteed by our Constitution that have been eroded by the government. Candidate Heller is an advocate of government accountability, civil liberties and individual rights.

Heller stood up for our rights, let's stand up for Rich Heller.

Give 'em Heller for a change!

Interesting. I just read that even though a Delegate doesn't have a vote on the final passage of legislation, he or she can serve on and vote with committees. That's where most of the action happens anyway.

I still like how D.C. residents have "taxation without representation" on their license plates. Although I'm sure they're aware of the saying that taxation with representation isn't much better.

Running against Eleanor Holmes Norton in DC?

Even if he gets on the ballot, he'd need a miracle to crack 20%.

He'd have a better chance of being elected Queen of England than getting elected as a conservative in DC.

Since when have those odds ever stopped us? ;)

Heller had worse odds trying to register his gun in the first place. Now look:
