Devvy Kidd: March on Convention, not D.C.

I read that last night. I agree with Kidd, but I am for both DC and RNC. I think either will be ignored by the media but I will go to whichever is decided by Ron.

I think either will be ignored by the media...

Of course. The days of expecting the media to accurately report are over. They won't do it in DC, and they won't do it in MN. So, that really needs to be thrown out as a consideration.

I don't even have a problem with a "feel good" rally, but I don't want to hear any crying about the media ignoring it. The media has real interests in all of this, and they aren't going to report the news if it interferes with those interests or the interests of their buddies.

Is anyone organizing an RNC convention march? The permit process for park reservations and permits starts this Monday, March 3rd. First come, first serve lottery for the parks and on-going for the demonstrations...

From www.stpaul.gov

Similar to the process in which the city awards permits for park use through a lottery at the beginning of the year, permits during the RNC convention period will be accepted up to 2 p.m. March 3 at the permit office.

A lottery drawing from permit applications will then follow at 3 p.m. The drawing is open to the public and will be broadcast through the city's cable channel soon after the drawing. The permit office will notify people of the status of their application by mail

Based on park availability, permit applications received after March 3 will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Demonstration permit applications will be accepted starting March 3, at which time applications received through the mail also will be opened. Community Services Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Applications will be reviewed and decisions made in a timely manner. However, if there are more questions or clarification is needed, the application approval can be delayed until the information is gathered.

She's a brilliant woman and shame on us for not thinking of this and those logical reasons why a D.C. march is no good......The only problem I see is that we're pretty much down to the wire at the convention...

Kidd is right, and before the brokered convention scenario became less viable, I and others were talking up just such a 'million Paul march' concept at the GOP convention to ratchet up the pressure on the delegates to drop McCain and pick Paul.

To still make it work, Paul needs to come up in the polls (perhaps sponsor some 'stilted' ones to manufacture his comeback), pick up delegates, including stealth delegates, and a spring swiftboat-McCain effort has to hit paydirt. Anyone care to mount a court challenge to McCain's 'citizenship' standing to run for President?

Perhaps we can have both the Paul campaign event exactly when he wants it, THEN gear up for an even BIGGER march in St. Paul on Labor Day. The HQ march can be the 'official' one, the MN rally the big grassroots one. Whatever the plan, just as we now know sign waving wasn't enough to win Paul any primary, we must realize that rallies/marches or other legacy forms of protest have no impact anymore, unless something extra gets added. If we really want a revolution to start, we will have to go above and beyond the bare-bones old school model of activism.

No need to discurage one event with the other their both good ideas. Were not a one trick pony we can both.

You may want to post your idea in the right forum next time.

Good idea!

Hmm...she does make a good argument. I remember when Rage Against The Machine played outside the Democratic convention in 2000. They got a SHITLOAD of press.

Media Coverage Won't Occur in DC

Ms. Kidd is correct, the media will be able to ignore a march on DC especially on July 4... the argument is sound.

Go to http://www.ronpaul2008.com/contact/form
and drop a note to Ron Paul's campaign and encourage them to reconsider the march effort to focus on the GOP Convention.
Site Devvy Kidd's posting at: http://www.rense.com/general81/prr.htm

In the meantime, maybe on the 4th of July individual Liberty Marches or some form of publicity stunts can be coordinated throughout the entire nation to show support for Ron Paul... local media may be more likely to cover such incremental showings...

E.g. what if we somehow created a grid across America that when viewed from Google Earth it spelled out RON PAUL?

I just emailed them and sent the links to the articles. Devvy Kidd is absolutely correct, and MN is central so it will be cheaper/easier for more people to go.

Once again I dont care what one screen name says over the other in a FORUM. If you want to setup a grassroots march devy then DO IT and let it run but dont assume this is in place of the march in d.c.

What one screen name says over another still makes no matter to me AT ALL. Everyone has an opinion but if no one is ready and CAPABLE of setting the entire thing up I think they should not boldly assume they know what is best.

If grassroots marches and protest will go on at the convention GREAT, but are you going to take care of making sure the media covers it? I suggest you focus on that rather then a date.

If you cant get the media to cover it then it really does not matter where or when we have it. So I suggest focusing your thread making abilities on problems that actually need a solution.

Why not leave the planning to those who know what they are doing and not just us in a forum spending way to much time writing in here and not enough actually accomplishing anything.

For the last few weeks the only thing that has been active in this forum is the griping over the damn march and who has the best idea. Who cares..... wait for the official and why not spend this effort actually doing something.
