With 100 percent of the precincts reporting, deceased candidate, Democrat Jenny Oropeza, defeated Republican John Stammreich in the race for State Senate in the 28th district.

Oropeza, 53, died on Oct. 20. Because her death was within 10 days of the election, her name remained on the ballot.

The governor now has two weeks to declare her seat empty, and schedule a special election within three to four months. This allows Democrats a chance to find a new candidate to run for Oropeza's seat.

A week after her death, Democrats sent out mailers to residents, calling for voters to still reelect Oropeza. The mailers featured Secretary of State Debra Bowen and Democratic Party general counsel Martha Escutia.

Aw. But imagine a corpse sitting in the middle of the State Senate? That'd be great. It'd be even greater if she was a zombie.

That's how bureaucracy works. If you are on paper you're alive, dun matter if you kicked the bucket.
If not on paper or in the system, you don't exist. That's the Hegelian dialectic.

As insane as that always seems when it happens, what people (at least those who are aware) are really doing is either electing a _[Insert Appointee Name]_ (R) or a _[Insert Appointee Name]_ (D) -- or, as in this case, calling for a "do-over" in the form of a special election.

To my mind this is kind of like the option that I WISH were on all ballots, namely a "None of the Above" option (though that would be different in that in my fantasy-world, if NOTA won, all the previous candidates would be ineligible to run for ANY office for the next 5 or 10 years, in a "get rid of the dead/rotten wood" type thing.)

yeah many ways...

Zombies elect Corpse...

Brain Deads vote Dead...

Corruptocrats elect Cadaver...

Can one contract a zombieitis if one's a necrophiliac?

That would explain why the blood lust in this nation to consume others is so intense.

Yep. Pure partisanship. In California we might as well not have elections. Let the Democrats choose our "elected" representatives in back rooms.
