Debra Medina open to Gubernatorial Bid in Texas

I would imagine she would be very leary about who she grants interviews with and what her answers would be to any given question the second time around, but you can bet that interview would be used against her.

IMHO, that "interview" and the way they spun it afterwards should be used against Glenn "Ron Paul supporters are terrorists" Beck, not her.

It says in the article that she might run as an independent which is pointless and could hand this governorship to the abortion princess Wendy Davis. Either run as a Republican or don't run at all.
This.

I'd say just stick with the Comptroller run since she's already been gunning that for quite some time.

I DO like Debra, a lot.. but it may be a bit late for her to switch gameplans as her opponents have such a head start.

If she decides to switch races, it should be to the House. She can make a bigger difference there than as Texas Comptroller, IMO.

This just in...

You may have seen news reports last Friday indicating I was entertaining a run for governor as an independent candidate. I want to make it clear that my focus at this time is raising the funding necessary to run a competitive campaign for comptroller.

I stand by the commitments I've made previously: As your next comptroller,

I'll work to exert the sovereignty of Texas against an overreaching federal government.
I'll work to diminish our dependence on Washington D.C. (fully 35% of our current budget is funded with federal money).
I'll work for tax reform, elimination of the property tax, and elimination of the current antiquated tax structure.
I'll work for adoption of a tax system that insures equitable and just tax policy, one that will provide funding for essential state and local services while impeding government growth.
I'll serve as an advocate for free markets and a resource to the public and the legislature providing relevant, objective and faithful information about the fiscal condition of the state.

I will stand strong for all Texans... but I won't launch a campaign unless we have the resources to compete effectively. Let's stay focused on raising those resources and cross the bridge to other alternatives only if we have to and only after the Dec. 9 filing deadline.

This discussion does however highlight a real predicament in our Party. It was perhaps most evident at the federal level in the last two presidential races. The Republican base does not want moderate establishment candidates but money and political influence often drown those voices during the primary nomination process. Predictably, a base uninspired by the Party nominee, didn't turn out in November and President Obama was elected, not once but TWICE.

We may be experiencing the same ailment here in Texas. Poll after poll shows voters want grass roots (call them TEA party, call them liberty-leaning) candidates. And more recently, Politico is even documenting a libertarian renaissance with 40% of voters saying they are most interested in individual freedom through lower taxes and reducing the size and scope of government. The article continues, "You'd think Republican voters, more than anybody, would want to win, but they've been down that road of electability before," said lead pollster Kelly Anne Conway, citing Mitt Romney and Bob Dole, "Voters aren't asking themselves who can win. They are asking who can lead...Republican voters in particular are fatigued with this false promise of electability."

Texans will chose new leadership for our state in 2014 but there are precious few candidates on that ballot who are either TEA Party or liberty leaning. Precious few who have consistently stood for limited government that protects the rights of individuals and the sovereignty of the great state of Texas, despite their lofty rhetoric to the contrary.

Maybe the Independents are doing us a favor by forcing us to look at our bench now. Not recognizing until after the March primary that we failed to field candidates who would appeal on principle to the emerging TEA Party and liberty leaning voters, as well as to Texas Independents and minorities may mean we face not only low turnout in November but even bigger government in 2014 and beyond.

Let's work to make sure our liberty leaning candidates have the resources they need to compete effectively inside the Republican Party!

This candidate could use your help! Would you contact the high wealth individuals you know, and even those who might not know you but whom you know live in your area, or are in your line of business or industry? Tell them you believe I should be the next Texas comptroller. Tell them you'll be the boots on the ground to work this campaign but we need their help with funding, can they contribute $10,000, $25,000 or $50,000 today?

Contributions can be made on line at www.MedinaForTexas.com or checks can be mailed to Debra Medina Campaign, P.O. Box 825, Wharton, Tx 77488.

Fighting for Freedom and Prosperity in Texas!

I received the same email and plan to support her ... but I will strongly urge her to run as a Republican for Comptroller. Considering that the other candidates in the race have established voting records that suck, she should be able to get the endorsement of folks like Empower Texans.
