David Cameron loses Syria vote in Commons

France will vote on it on Wednesday.

Why isn't the US Congress getting a vote on this? If Obama goes ahead without consulting Congress, then at that point, we should try to impeach him.

A picture is worth a thousand words. This is the picture that best represents how I feel at the moment even though I know our warmonger president could still make things worse.

Another thing I do not understand is why Assad is not on TV telling his side of the story. The man can speak English and is very articulate unlike Gaddafi and his sons. Call a press conference and speak to the world and tell them that you did not use chemical weapons, that you do not need t use chemical weapons and you want the world to help his country fight the Al Qaeda terrorists.

He better do something other than hiding in bunkers and safe houses to save his ass.

Great news! I had BBC Parliament online this AM and Cameron's sales pitch for this war was so full of bullshit. All sorts of crap about "incontrovertible proof" from Youtubes and terrorists. The bad part is that the opposition, while arguing to wait for the UN report (which will not say who did it, only if there is evidence of CW) never mentioned all of the sources who have said this was done by the 'rebels'. So, if the UN report says CW were used, does that mean the UK opposition gives Cameron the green light? I sure hope not. Anyway, for the short time being, I relish seeing Obama slowly twisting in the wind and looking like a fool.

The opposition's motion was voted down too. At the end of it all Cameron said he would respect the the will of the House and the British people on not getting the military involved.

Delay is good.
I am afraid that it is temporary. They have been wanting to do this for some time.

But I welcome any delay of the inevitable.

He has done so,, but "western" Media does not report it.

looking for someone who knows british politics to answer- does this mean a vote of no confidence?

Many are against this not because they like the Syrian government, or even the Syrian people, but because they do not want to provoke Russia and China any further. No sane person wants to see WW3 develop over this.

It is kinda funny how USA and the west picks on Syria and Iran.. like big bullies picking on the smaller kids.. but then the smaller kids bring their big bros to confront the big bullies and the big bullies run away.

I think Obama and Cameron is looking for a way out after saying they would strike. They don't want to anger 90% of the people or provoke China/Russia. So they use parliament and whatever to tell them No. They cant back down on their own at risk looking weak. It is like a person telling his friend to hold him back while he acts tough.

You mean they get to vote up or down? Somebody needs to tell them about Authorization of Force.

Wow! This is really a surprise. And a close vote as well. Did the UKIP gains in the last election make the difference? Are they solidly opposed? I haven't really kept up.

The coalition government has a working majority of 77 so losing this vote is actually extremely embarrassing for the Prime Minister.

David Cameron (or Call Me Dave, as I refer to him) has suffered a political and a public relations disaster this evening, which concerns me because politicians being the self-serving little toads that they are, he will now be looking for a way to turn this around and snatch victory from the jaws of defeat...
