Daniel Hannan makes Hannity look inept on his own radio show.

This guy is one of the best speakers I have ever heard. I am consistently amazed by his intelligence.

Let me sum up his argument - which he basically forced Hannity to agree with him on (unwillingly):

Freedom and democracy in Egypt and other states is the magic pill for ensuring stability in the region. If western states pursue a policy of supporting secularism at all costs (even by supporting terrible authoritarian dictators), then the only alternative seen among the populace will be extremist Islam. The policy of pursuing "stability" drives people toward extremist Islam.

Hannity kept trying to argue that if the west "allows" democracy and does not get the result they want, then nuclear armed Islamic states will eventually attack Israel and start WWIII. Thankfully, Hannan would not bite on this bit of hypocritical Islamophobia.

The innate human desire is for freedom. Given that, there should be nothing to fear from "the wrong regime." Moreover, the worst kinds of dictatorships have arisen out of societies in ruins - not democratic societies with property rights, self-determination, etc.

In this case, the chicken (freedom & democracy) comes before the egg (stability). It does not work in reverse.

Hannan absolutely wiped the floor with Hannity and basically left him speechless. No doubt, he'll go back to making the same dumb argument, but it was nice to see...

I have to admit that I watch and listen to Hannity from time to time, and I agree with him on most domestic issues. But he is just utterly insane on foreign policy issues. I would imagine that even a good portion of his audience disagrees with him on this. Even Rush isn't nearly this crazy on foreign policy issues. Rush at least says that we should intervene overseas for the sake of our national security. Hannity is simply an outright neocon who believes that we should intervene overseas for the purpose of "spreading freedom and democracy" around the world. I had to turn off his radio show today it was so disgusting.

I hope you're thinking of a change in lifestyle sometime soon ;]

Anyway, thanks Legend for posting this, this was a really good interview.

Part of it is the British accent, but I love how Hannan breaks things down so intellectually and smoothly.

It's hysterical that Hannity can even try to speak highly of the peace (with Israel) under a stable and tyrannical regime, when the argument completely ignores the torture, violence, corruption, and anti-peace endured under a military dictatorship.

Same typical credo spouted by the rest of the adherers of Permanent American Hegemony: Democracy is good except when it's not our kind.

Daniel Hannan just earned my respect back...

May I ask why you lost it in the first place?

I ask because he's said things that have disappointed me in the past.

fox news tonight was horrible "Muslim brotherhood" "radical" "sharia" sad thing is my mom eats it all up

Do a search and find out on what date hannity's national radio show debuted. I think it will explain why he is that way.

Facepalm.....Shaun using the Iranian revolution as his prime example against democracy in middle eastern countries.

Russel Simmons debated Hannity on his show weeks ago... smoked him on the genocide the US government committed on Iraq+++

Easy to whack this NEOCON puppet named Hannity to the floor.

Yeah Hannity is not that bright. That is why I cannot listen to him, he just is not smart...he just uses cliches without any meaning,...nothing really there besides a bunch of propganda he has been fed through his life, occasionally he hits something right, but its so very infrequent that I can sit through more than 30 mins really.
