Dan Rather on Obama "he couldn't sell watermelons if you hired a state trooper to..."

He couldn't sell watermelons if he hired a state trooper to do what? TO DO WHAT?!
I MUST KNOW THE ANSWER!

some1 please post what was said, no audio here.

thx

Oh he was talking about how Obama hasn't been able to do anything with healthcare, said something along the lines that he is an eloquent speaker, "but he couldn't sell watermelons if you hired a state trooper to..."

Then the douchey host guy cuts him off to diffuse the situation..

"...if you brought in a State trooper to flag down traffic." is what he said

oh.
I guess that is racist.
Cause Watermelons are linked to African-Americans somehow right? I guess? :X

I was born in 1990 I don't really hear these racist lingos! Just when someone uses the term "watermelons" and an African-American in the same sentence it causes this controversy. It's almost a parody of what it used to be back in the day.

you guys are kidding when you say or think that's racist right?

I see nothing being racist in that video.

How about "He couldn't sell Fried Chicken to the Colonel!" instead?

We are judging what the public perception will be, based on how the media is going to react.

I don't believe Rather was being racist either -- but it's about situational ethics. If someone on the "right" side of the false paradigm had said that the media would roast them as a closte KKK member, but if someone ont he "left" side of the false paradigm says it, then it's "OK"

It's the double standard that is what is being confronted here in this thread -- IMHO anyway...

yeah i guess. But, if I think about it, the only items i've seen sold off the street(not in a market, but just in a spot by a parking lot or open lawn on the side of the road) on random summer days are watermelons and flowers. So when Dan Rather says it the way he did I got the image of what i've always seen but, with a state trooper to flag down traffic.

How about he just said: "He couldn't sell nationalized health care if he pushed for legislation that mandated it?"

Oh wait........
