From the point of view of European politics, the USA is already a right-wing country.
Think of this: on an absolute spectrum of politics (if such a thing exists), Obama is roughly level with Prime Minister Cameron (leader of the Tory/Conservative Party in Britain). That means that the average Republican is roughly level with Nick Griffin (leader of the British National Party aka Neo-Nazis), and the Tea Party is somewhere off outside the bounds of sanity.
And this from an apparently conservative country (Switzerland)!
