Cut and Run - Ronald Reagan Style

Some great points in that blog. However, today we are dealing with an irrational arrogant meglomaniac that takes the bible literally and believes that the world will end soon. Coming from that frame of mind is it any wonder we're in this mess?

Cool, hope to see some Ron Paul blogs too.

You could add Ronald supports another Ronald, that's Ron Paul.

I like your blog.

However, I totally do not understand the republican fixation with Reagan. To me, he was a charming actor, who led a terrible administration. Budget deficits and government spending for as far as the eye could see. Iran-Contra scandal.

Really the only good thing that happened during his administration was the collapse of the USSR, which most republicans apparently believe Reagan achieved single-handedly. My opinion is that the unknown Tank Man of Tiannamen square probably had more to do with the peaceful end of the warsaw pact than anything Reagan said or did.

Relatively speaking, Reagan was a far more honorable man than the more recent holders of the Office of the President. But, more to the point: Reagan had great rhetoric and Americans considered him great because of it. His stated positions resonated with many Americans and still resonates to this day. In many ways, he took the job Goldwater should have had, but political realities are always lagging behind it seems.

Reagan never really delivered on any of his positions and , in fact, often achieved the opposite, but he looked good nevertheless to many people who valued perceptions more than fact.

See, no matter how pure and good your intentions, if you sell your soul to get into power you will not achieve your goals. Reagan was backed by people that essentially had bought and paid for him as a candidate.
