Court overturns conviction of SWAT cop that shot "hostage" of toy truck wielding autistic man
Explain that one oh you who back the blue. So this autistic man is having a bad day. He goes out into the street holding his favorite toy truck. His caretaker goes out in the street to console him. The cops of course are called because he's blocking traffic. SWAT shows up. Officers mush brains thinks the truck is a gun and the caretaker is a hostage.....so he shoots the caretaker. At trial officer mush brains is, of course, convicted. Officer mush brains tried to introduce an expert witness about his training and that expert was denied. His conviction gets overturned because the appeals court says he should have been allowed his expert witness. Expert witnesses are only supposed to be allowed when they can enlighten the court about things that the ordinary person cannot understand. So....how is it that an ordinary person cannot understand that no amount of training can justify showing up to a scene, assuming that someone is a hostage without evidence, determining that a toy truck must be a gun, and then shooting the hostage that really isn't a hostage?
