County Convention Registration Fee

Is it legal to have one? I just got an email about my local convention today and it said this:

Reminder: To defray the costs of staging this event, there will be a $10.00 registration fee.

10 dollars isn't too much I guess and I can afford it, but it seems like it could be unfair to impoverished people that want to participate in the process. What if the registration fee was 50 dollars though or 100 or 1000?

They are making it a lot more expensive, some are saying people have to pay downpayments for Tampa (at least I read some did in AK). People protested and they gave them 'a few days' so they didn't have to have it there -- obviously only the establishment people who had been warned expected to pay on the spot. It is not aimed at the establishment regulars, I am pretty certain. It may be legal, but report back on anything like that.

If anyone has authority for this being illegal, please post it because it is one of the games being pulled on our delegates.

In Alaska, they are charging $250 to attend their State Convention and in Wyoming, they are charging $175 to attend their State Convention (even if you attend as an alternate delegate). This has caused some of our supporters to not become delegates.

Yeah, this is just for the county convention. It is interesting that it costs so much to participate in democracy

Attending the RNC is incredibly expensive, but you have to factor in hotel and flight costs. In 2008, attendees to the RNC were told to expect that the average cost was on the order of four or five thousand dollars per person.

The GOP is a private organization, so yes, they could charge $10 billion if they wanted.

the problem that is NOT their right is the barriers to entry (monopoly by force) they get LEGALLY implemented. If they use the law to stop competition (new parties, independent candidates), it is disenfranchisement to not have to be fair.

that isn't the point. The point is making it a barrier, as in AK where you had to pay that day with no warning and people weren't prepared unless they had been clued in in advance.
