Cop saves dog

it's not news when a cop is just doing his job.
This. If the majority of cops acted within the laws they've sworn to uphold we wouldn't need threads (or news articles) to remind us that there are still good ones left. I have never once had a positive encounter with police. (Of the dozens of times they've stopped to "protect and serve.") No, it is always to harrass and detain me. To trump up charges, steal my money, try to fight me. To run their hands over my then underage girlfriend's body under the premise that she was hiding drugs, to throw me in the mud, to try to fight me again, to rev their engine to at least 4,000 RPM narrowly not running me over whilst doing 45 mph in a 25 (only to hit a red light). I could go on and on (literally). And I swear to God everything I stated happened. One pig was promoted to Chief of Police not long ago. The other Lieutenant. FTP

And there in lies the rub ... I have said bad cops should be held accountable.
I just don't rush to judgement under the premise that most/all of them are bad, and therefore they should all be found guilty before the evidence is known.

I also don't shout the mantra of never call the cops ;)

I'm glad the lady in the video wasn't afraid to call the cops !!
Aren't you ?

On the one side, you know bad cops aren't held accountable (though I've never seen you voice an opinion of this kind), and on the other, you believe the institution is not flawed and is mostly good?

It can't be both. Which is it?
More fabrication from the non-Governor ... And NO, I'll not quote myself, you will find or refuse to find, what you wish.

Obviously you're doing something wrong ... Few people have this many encounters during a lifetime.

During my adolescence, in a medium-sized fairly poor suburb of Houston, I probably ran into cops drunk, sometimes with weed on me, while underage, at least half a dozen times and never went to jail. It was always a call to my parents. I remember once they didn't even call parents. Cops broke up a party once and allowed us to call sober people to take us home. Maybe its just our town, but the cops seem to have better priorities. I can tell stories for hours of buddies who had a sack thrown away rather than being arrested.

Obviously police are in a position to abuse power, and unfortunately in today's society the vast majority of them do, worse yet they get protected from justice by the system and their buddies, but that doesn't mean it isn't possible for their to be good cops. Speaking in such absolutes is quite frankly ignorant.

in all fairness cops doing what they are paid to do is not really news .

and when cops go "above and beyond" and do something heroic it is reported on , i see it on the local news all the time .

im wiling to bet though if there was a way to have an accurate count of the dogs saved by cops vs dogs killed by cops it would not be in favor of the dogs . which is sad .

i have come across just as many good cops as bad in my time , the problem is when you come across the bad it can ruin your life or end it .

And there in lies the rub ... I have said bad cops should be held accountable.

Question. Do you have an example of what you considered to be a bad cop that should be held accountable?

bottom line, was great to see this, i so love dogs:) ooo look at the cute doggie:) nice to see the good police doing their jobs:) feel the love.

^^^ Your words probably explain the fixation on the negative.
rightfully .

tis much more Prudence to acquit two Persons, tho’ actually guilty, than to pass Sentence of Condemnation on one that is virtuous and innocent.— Voltaire

this is why there needs to be a "fixation" on those who do bad and are in a position of authoritarian power .

I'll bite.......

There should not be two sets of law, one for common folk and another for government employees.

There should be equal sentencing and financial liability for all people, no special treatment for LEO.

One 'encounter' i had with a female cop was Christmas eve years ago. I worked the graveyard shift, and got off my freeway exit at around 3am. Just 5 minutes to go for home, when the 'lights' came on behind me I pulled into a business parking lot. She said i was 'weaving'. I pointed out i had studded tires on, and maybe that was why. I was stone cold sober, and tired from working a 10 hour shift. She comes back after running my license and hands me a ticket for not using my turn signal when i entered the parking lot. The only cars on the road were me and her. I thanked her and told her MERRY CHRISTMAS. Went to court a few weeks later...on my day off...the Judge dismissed it.

I'm pretty sure cops like this are the rule rather than the exception. She should'nt be a cop imo.

Im not impressed, I once chased a lab like six miles and caught it... yeah. In work boots, after a long day, high as a kite, I chased that dog down and caught it.

I understand what you are saying. I've had way too many horrid experiences to ever trust a cop.. let alone talk to them. I was 10-11 years old when they first stopped to harrass me. I was ankle cuffed for 6 hours. The pig proceeded to try to fight me "What you think you're big pussy, take a swing" "I wish you would" "Hit me pussy, hit me." That only went on for hours. The officer in this specific case is now Chief of Police of the PPD. He can't even look me in the eye. It isn't a matter of good cops vs. bad cops. THEY ALL SHOULD SERVE THE INTEREST OF THE PEOPLE. And for the record, since azxd questions my criminality, I have no convictions WHAT-SO-EVER. All of my "charges" are soon dismissed with no apology. Only a "Oh you think you're tough pussy" every single time they see me. This isn't a post of sympathy. It's a post of what actually happens when you live in a high crime area.

Yes, I would say they have. Where I am from, (and at) they (cops) are conditioned to act as if they are in a combat zone. They stop routinely to pull up their gloves, ask what you are doing, why you are there etc. They have no value of the Constitution, as if they have ever read it. They are swine. And no matter what you try to say my personal experiences are this: the only time they ever stopped when I was stranded to help was to search my car. After my car was clear they proceeded on their way and I proceeded without a tire. (Not as if I expected them to purchase a tire, or even take me to get one, THEY JUST NEVER CARED) Once my car was "clear" they proceeded to their next gestapo stop.

I see you avoided my question. I'll repeat it.

Question. Do you have an example of what you considered to be a bad cop that should be held accountable?

Everyone agrees that the OP video is an example of a cop doing good. Do you have any examples of anything where you think a cop didn't do good? Any at all?

How'd I know who the OP was before I opened the thread? It was either that or azxd would've had 26 posts in the first 3 pages.
