Convincing Ron Paul to accept $MILLS in matching funds for an independent presidential run

no, because he is performing a service. That is is different than using taxpayer funds to promote your own presidential run.

To my mind he is performing a service if he uses part of the funds to prosecute the fraud, maybe asking ballot access as a remedy.

I don't see how giving voters an alternative to more war and debt by running for president is any less performing a service than being the near-lone vote against more war and debt in Congress.

you are both right, and he would be doing it selflessly. There is not a doubt in my mind that this would be a great service to those of us who believe in limited government and freedom. However, it is still just a political view.

Less war and or less spending is not objectively better than the alternative. Using taxpayer funds to promote any political view I think is pretty hypocritical. Which brings up the idea of whether or not the end result justify's the means. Look at how hypocritical the GOP is, and it's all done in the name of "winning."

Using taxpayer's money to serve the purposes of what we think is good and right isn't any better than when they use our money to do what they think is good and right.

I want him to run... but I want him to run on his terms, and I doubt he'd be comfortable with taking 20-30 million in taxpayer money to fund his campaign

I heard him say it in an interview, when he was asked WHEN he would make a decision about running third party, he said after all the delegates are counted and vote at RNC. It was in a 'quit asking me already' way, not in a 'and I can hardly wait to announce' way, but he said it.

Yes, I heard the same interview. I think it may be referenced in the article from January, but it could have been later.

I'll go look for it.

Did you listen to the end of the interview? You need to watch the video with Ron Paul on it, and listen all the way to the end.

Why does this whole RP on the LP ticket thing still keep coming up?

I thought we were for personal liberty and rights..

If you were buying a house but lost the bid on that house, you wouldn't go to your neighbor and kick them out so you had a place to live.

That is what this whole "GJ NEEDS TO LET RP RUN LP!!" crap is.

It is selfish.

If Ron wanted to run the best bet for him would be to fill out the paperwork for write in.

I am pretty sure that he is unable to join the debates as a write in.

Since that is the ultimate goal, I do not see it as worth the expense and effort.

Must be the voices in your head. I have heard NO ONE say that.

DR. PAUL, PLEASE ACCEPT THE MATCHING FUNDS. IT IS OUR MONEY AND YOU HAVE OUR PERMISSION TO USE IT!!! THIS IS MUCH BETTER USE OF THE FRUITS OF OUR LABORS THAN THE CONVENTION-MERCIALS.

WE ARE BEGGING YOU TO USE IT.

PLEASE USE MATCHING FUNDS!!!

Signed a Taxpayer (and Ron Paul Supporter)

To be fair I at least am saying that. :P

And buddaroll, it's because RP is a much, much, much better candidate than GJ, by any standard of measure, and the LP should be thrilled to have him on the ticket, as P or VP.

If the LP wouldn't be as thrilled as we would be to see Ron take the P on the ticket, then perhaps the LP isn't right for us.
