Convincing Ron Paul to accept $MILLS in matching funds for an independent presidential run

In one interview he said he would wait until all the delegates were counted at the RNC to decide.

Um, because no one knew before the convention that the RNC would completely silence Ron Paul and his delegates?

Silence about what? They accomplished everything they were supposed to. Ron Paul certainly didn't get anything less out of the convention than he expected.

To decide about running indy? If so, please give that link. The notion of doing that makes so little sense that it has to be something else.

He expected Maine to be stripped of all its delegates? Really? He expected buses to be hijacked so that Romney could push through rules making it nearly impossible for Rand to get nominated in 2016 unless they're somehow overturned? He expected his supporters to be arbitrarily ejected from the credentials committee? Really?

It's a shame he didn't tell anyone--it would have made a great addition to the video of his famous predictions.

It was pretty clear before that point that the delegates would not be seated from Maine. The rules committee had met before the rally and it seemed clear they would be ousted. Furthermore the campaign compromised on a ton of delegates before the rally so clearly they weren't going to fight tooth and nail to get all of them seated. Had they truly wanted a fight the wouldn't have compromised.

Regardless we didn't have enough delegates to win so it wouldn't make sense why Ron would just change his mind now.

I think this is all rumor started by people that dont want to see him step aside... Ron's done running.

I don't know about expecting those specific things. But he didn't expect to give a nomination speech. He surely expected those types of things in case there turned out to be rogue delegates trying to nominate him against his will. I don't see why those little details have any relevance to the question of running as an independent. If he didn't want his delegates to undergo those sorts of things, then he could have announced an indy run long ago and bypassed the RNC altogether after failing to win the delegates. There's no conceivable reason for him to wait until now.

Ron always has low expectations. He was told he wouldn't get 5 states and believed they'd cheat him of the delegates as the did, that doesn't mean it is ok, or that they weren't hoping otherwise. And in fact he had six states file to put him into nomination in any event -- and then they changed the rules.... a double wrinkle I dont think he expected. And then they changed the rules so they could centrally change the rules any time they want and ax any delegates who might change that ability to change the rules later. I don't think anyone saw that coming.

Accepting federal funds would be hypocritical in my opinion.

I think something has to get disenfranchised people represented and given the major parties are funded and given blatant favoratism in ballot access etc, I'm fine if he does it. But HE would have to be fine with it, and that is something else again. I really think these rules changes disenfranchise voters throughout the party and something needs to be done. Don't know if it will happen, though.

even without Maine and Louisiana six states filed to put Ron into nomination, so they changed the rules on the spot.

Yes, the article is from January, but it specifically cites August and Tampa and having to make a decision afterward.

The article refers to August and Tampa. But it doesn't quote Ron Paul using either of those words. Nowhere in it does RP say anything close to indicating that he would wait until then to decide if he would run indy.

I heard him say it in an interview, when he was asked WHEN he would make a decision about running third party, he said after all the delegates are counted and vote at RNC. It was in a 'quit asking me already' way, not in a 'and I can hardly wait to announce' way, but he said it.

Is accepting his Congressional salary when the US government is $16T in debt also hypocritical?

no, because he is performing a service. That is is different than using taxpayer funds to promote your own presidential run.
