Contact Focus on the Family, Christian Political Support Needed!

Doubt it makes it to anyone, worth a try.

To whom it may concern;

This is a very serious request and I hope that it finds somebody on the other end that is willing to listen.

I am encouraged to hear that many in the Focus on the Family organization are disheartened by the choices they see on the Republican side of the aisle (we won't even talk about the Democratic side). It gives me hope to know that a large Christian organization has finally awoke to the problems that this country faces and is willing to make a bold statement, even if it means loosing political clout within the system.

I am a Catholic, but more importantly I believe in God and Jesus Christ. I have spent years studying the problems that plague this country and like Alice in Wonderland I sometime regret the day I stepped into the looking glass. I have been perusing that ONE thing or combination of things that has taken this country in such an awful direction.

I, like many of you, have blamed the Democrats, the Liberals, the Socialist and even more recently the Republicans and the Neo-Conservatives. And what I have learned from many years and many mistakes is that we are looking for answers in the wrong place. We keep looking for a way to shape government in a way that will support the millions of Christians in this country that are constantly under attack. And what I have learned is that we are spending all this effort in the wrong place.

The idea of the moral majority and bringing religion into politics was without a doubt a bad idea. It has done nothing but water down the ideas of religion to better fit into a political spectrum. We have subordinated the sanctity and individuality of the church to the state, NOT the other way around.

Liberals loathe the idea of church and state, but they don't seem to realize that it's worked to their benefit. The church is so watered down now, because of tax exempt status and the governmental rules that come with that status.

It's time that the major churches of this country realize that the last 30 years or more of direction have been wrong. The churches of this country should be fighting to REMOVE government from religion, NOT the other way around. This requires a different way of thinking. It requires us to stop asking government to do things for us and to follow the path laid down by Jesus Christ and his churches, and DO FOR OUR SELVES.

Ron Paul is a man of God, of that I have no doubt. His ideology should not be looked upon as a foe to your ends, but a blessing. His idea will free the churches of this country from meddling government, not the other way around. Stop taking the tax exempt status and STAND UP and say the GOVERNMENT HAS NO RIGHT TO THAT MONEY TO BEGIN WITH!! Its money that I and all my fellow parishioners have freely given to you, to help ease suffering around the country and around the world.

Please give Ron Paul at least some benefit of the doubt and listen to his views.

His views are as close to those espoused by the Bible as anyone I have every heard. I even had to change a few of my views, because they were so hypocritical and against the will of God. Chief among them was my views on capital punishment.

Please consider my request.

Great letter, I would have loved to append my signature to it as well.

Sheesh, as a graduate of the Focus on the Family Institute AND a donating supporter of Ron Paul, some of you sure do know how to be reach out....

I'll post my letter to Dr. Dobson here later...

Let me take a giant shot here in saying that you probably also promote the movie Zeitgeist and do not believe that Jesus was ever really alive..

wow. the troll is wrong again... zeitgeist bored the hell out of me.

and Jesus was only alive.

::awful jackass::

holier than thou? ain't got time for it
nor the "christian" weasels who carry
it around like a merit badge (reduen).

Talking about constituent, all that was basically said by him/her was that certain leaders of the Christian right have misled certain Christians. Do you not agree? I don't believe James Dobson can be trusted, and I think that is what constituent was trying to say. He never even mentioned Jesus.

I look forward to reading it. Ignore the peanut gallery. :)

Do you not yet realize the extent to which the "christian right"
has betrayed Christians?

Do you not realize the great extent to which the "christian" right
has acted as a tool, encouraging people to blindly follow (nearly
worship, see justice sunday) the elected (some in the religious right
would have at point said, divinely annointed) regime that
has destroyed our country?

Think it was on accident?

Really? Do you?

Kill Iraqis, Kill Afghans, but save terry schiavo???

give me a break.

how about the council for national policy?

i believe dobson is actually a member...

you know, the group that just met
secretly w/ cheney?

Constituent, you are grouping all Christians together and that is something you shouldn't do.

Approaching Dr. Dobson in a reasoned, principled, POLITE manner, would be a good thing for some of us to do.

Keep in mind that if we can get someone like Dr. Dobson on our side, it would go a long way towards putting Dr. Paul in office. He and Phyllis Schlafly's support would be huge.

I agree LibertyEagle, but you have my assurances that the two are a lost cause.

Both are participants in Tim Lahaye's "super-secret" council for national policy
that just met (w/ Mitt Romney btw) in Utah. Schlafly, if I'm not mistaken is
in like flynn w/ the NRA (i know they got you cranked-up, as you should be!).

The Gospel According to LaHaye crowd will never be on RP's side, b/c they are
not here to serve God or the best interest of the American people.
These are the scratchers of itching ears (if you don't get the reference,
check your bible), and will not be convinced one way or another.

Seriously, I wish it wasn't this way, but it is. And it will always be this
way with these people and the blind sheep they blindly lead
down the path of misery and destruction.

People Like Reduen, who clearly buy it, are the prime example of the
sort of audience this crowd attracts. Do not expect reason, logic,
or anything that we or the dr. use to overcome their pure,
distilled ZEALOTRY.

Rather than a letter asking for acceptance, or even a nod of recognition,
what would hold more sway would be a letter assuring a MASS DEFECTION
from their donor rolls w/out apologies for his dedication
to the devil's work in the good lord's name...

Sorry to be a buzzkill (I take evil very seriously).

(thank you libertybelle!)

Ignore hmm

I look forward to reading it. Ignore the peanut gallery. :)

I can tell you focus on the family doesnt want you to have individual liberty here in colorado. They voted against individual liberty here for many people.

but hey if they think it will get more votes for Ron Paul ,then great, but at the sametime its a double edged sword, since many people dont look good on it here in colorado.Focus on the family here has decided to go against individual liberty issues here in colorado.

What about a little more focused effort in the first few primary states?

Raise $$ for someone like Chuck Baldwin to travel to the primary states, visit/guest speak at local churches in each state? Meanwhile , perhaps he (along with other Christians for Ron Paul) could write to the "christian leaders".

Why do you continue to call me names like "Troll and awful jackass"? Do you pray to your Father with that same mouth?

You are right about one thing, my initial response to you was very presumptuous and somewhat insensitive and for that I am really sorry.

I just get tired of getting attacked for being Christian, and tired of being grouped with those you are calling Christian Leaders in your initial post. I personally do not believe that a real Christian would do any of the things you have motioned there. I know I would not and Jesus is truly my Lord and Savior...

You say:

“holier than thou? ain't got time for it
nor the "christian" weasels who carry
it around like a merit badge (reduen)”

Again, I am sorry for my incorrect assumptions toward your post but believe it or not, you could not be any further from the truth about me here either..

I have just tried too apologizing to constituent for my incorrect assumptions where his/her post is concerned but you puzzle me here.

Why do you continue to refer to these people as Christian Right? Why not call them religious right or something else? The actions that you are referring to by said leaders are certainly not Christ-Like in the least bit...

To me they are more like the Pharisees and/or Sadducees of the Bible. (We all know who Jesus said was their father.)

Hey

Sheesh, as a graduate of the Focus on the Family Institute AND a donating supporter of Ron Paul, some of you sure do know how to be reach out....

I'll post my letter to Dr. Dobson here later...

Hey i dont blame you,i just blame the group focus on the family. In colorado they do not believe in individual liberty, unless its theres. I'd love to see them change their views but i highly doubt it,since i saw there true colors in the last election here in Colorado.

Example #1 ,Then again by their belief(most members not all) i guess everyone chooses to be homosexual.

So i guess to me that says everyone is bi-sexual,but we choose to be straight.

The belief that homosexuality is a choice, that really is pretty silly. Note I'm straight(didnt want to be sent to hell for having receptors in the brain that god gave me)

I would ask all to research the brains activities, since anyone one of us can be mentally fine one day and wake up bi polar or have mental problems the next just by a few changes in your chemical makeup in the brain.
ITS NONSENSE TO THINK HOMOSEXUALITY IS A CHOICE,you are either born straight/bi-sexual/homosexual. Period or your chemicals in the brain change and you become attracted to whatever is attractive to you, after that its your choice who you like etc,but your sexual preference isnt a choice.

Example #2 Focus on the Family actively worked to get lies in the bluebook about Amendment 44(to legalize marijuana for adults(note a substance far safer then alcohol) look at the stats its obvious.(they tried to imply voting yes on this would make it legal to give to kids, but they failed to tell the voters it was a CLASS 4 FELONY) They were the only group in colorado other then the lying feds that opposed this bill. Then right after the election ,a preacher was busted with meth and having massages by a gay(so what) massage tech ,ooo if it would of happened before the election ,hyprocrites.

Marijuana is safer then alcohol and the only dangerous effect from marijuana is the smoking part.Science has proven Marijuana is 100% percent save to eat,so for all those anti marijuana people, instead of using billions of tax money to stop marijuana, which it hasnt.Try respecting Individual Libertys.
If your truly in it to save the kids then you would be fighting to legalize marijuana so you can educate that there is no need to smoke it,just eat it,end of debate. It's not about the kids(alcohol does far more damage then all illegal and legal drugs combined and its legal. The drug war was used to divide people by both parties and it seemed to worked..

If Focus on the Family comes out and changes their position then good, but i highly doubt it.i dont trust them,If you lived in Colorado.you would know exactly what im saying.I look at it this way, they were encouraged by dobson to go against peoples individual libertys. Now I'm suppose to believe they believe in Individual Libertys???? ha maybe some of his supporters do,but the organization is out to take away your libertys not protect them, thats my take on Focus on the Family,i wouldnt go bragging about them,id keep it really low if they endorse Ron Paul, which i doubt they will since their actions speak louder then words..

Thank you, Travis, for your recent e-mail. We are pleased you took a moment to share a few thoughts regarding the 2008 presidential election.

While we appreciate your willingness to weigh in on the merits of Ron Paul's platform, we should point out that Focus is prohibited by IRS guidelines from endorsing presidential candidates. Our sister 501(c)(4) organization, Focus on the Family Action, though allowed greater latitude in that area, has likewise chosen to refrain from so doing. Rather, we believe we’re called to speak out on the moral issues that Christians can’t afford to ignore and to recommend that believers vote for candidates whose convictions align with those principles, regardless of party affiliation. Along these lines, we invite you to take a look at a paper titled Non-Negotiable Issues: Focus on the Family’s Encouragement to Christian Voters. It explains some of the factors we believe are key in determining a viable candidate.

It’s also worth mentioning that if Dr. Dobson were to endorse a presidential candidate, he would do so as a private individual and not in his capacity as Chairman of the Board of Focus or Focus Action. To this point, Dr. Dobson has not backed anyone for the 2008 election.

Again, thanks for contacting us. Be assured that we will continue to closely monitor the presidential race, and, as the field narrows, we will provide as much information as possible about the views of those who come to the fore. Richest blessings!

From that paper, it appears Paul matches every 'non negitionable' policy area except perhaps gay marriage; Paul would return the power to define marriage to the people and their churches, so perhaps this won't be too big of a sticking point?
