I went to both the CP and LP websites. It appears that the LP is on 31 ballots and the CP is on 23 ballots. Both are still collecting signatures. I wonder if the major parties have to go through this process..and if not..why not? tones
They do not. They automatically qualify by virtue of vote totals from the previous election. The LP and CP or any other party (not independent candidate) can also qualify for a ballot position for the next election IF they poll enough votes. Each state is different as to what percentage must be polled and in some states only votes for president or governor are considered for continuing ballot access. In many cases it is not that high a percentage like 5% or so, but that is not as easy as it seems especially if only the top of the ticket office is the qualifying race.
