Taxes are an essential part of government, yes.

And yes, Ron Paul knows that if we have government we need taxes. Point is, there are better ways to do it than through an income tax.
The mentality of many left wingers is that all of peoples income is first owned by the government, and the part that we allow you to keep you should be grateful for. This is totally the wrong mentality of a free society.
