LSU Health Shreveport Chancellor G.E. Ghali said Letlow died from a heart attack following a procedure related to the infection.

"It's devastating to our entire team," Ghali said.

"He had no underlying conditions," Ghali said. "It was just COVID."

He being operated on and had a heart attack on the table.

Rep.-elect Luke Letlow (R-La.) has died from the coronavirus, multiple sources confirmed Tuesday evening. He was 41.
Letlow, who announced on Dec. 18 that he tested positive for Covid-19, had been in the intensive care unit at Ochsner LSU Health in Shreveport.

"The family appreciates the numerous prayers and support over the past days but asks for privacy during this difficult and unexpected time," the family said in a statement that was first reported by the Monroe News-Star. "A statement from the family along with funeral arrangements will be announced at a later time."

Letlow, who served as chief of staff to former Rep. Ralph Abraham (R-La.) before being elected to fill that seat, was supposed to be sworn into Congress on Sunday. He is the first member or member-elect to die from the coronavirus, though dozens of lawmakers have tested positive for Covid-19 over the past year.
Letlow leaves behind a wife and two small children. He was initially admitted to a Monroe hospital on Dec. 19, but was transferred and placed in the ICU last week when his condition deteriorated.
Lawmakers and aides on Capitol Hill said they were devastated to learn of Letlow’s passing. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said in a brief statement that “our hearts break tonight as we process the news.”
The entire Louisiana delegation, led by House Minority Whip Steve Scalise, issued a joint statement offering their condolences.

Tom Mountain, the vice chairman of the Massachusetts Republican State Committee, was rushed to a hospital three days after the Dec. 9 event, where most attendees shunned masks. “When I went down to Washington, D.C. for the White House Hanukkah event, I was perfectly fine,” the 60-year-old told WJAR. “And three days later after that event, I was in the hospital… ready to be put on a lifesaving ventilator.” Mountain told the local network that he felt “politically and morally obligated to go” to the event, but is now filled with regret. Mountain told the Boston Globe: “I didn’t listen to the warnings of my own family, and now I’m paying the price.” He’s now recovering at home after being hospitalized twice.

Ah, useless Remdesivir and a useful steroid, both with a variety of known adverse reactions and side effects.

Remdesivir can cause increased blood sugar and decreased potassium (hypokalemia). Low potassium can cause heart failure. Hopefully they would have been monitoring that.

Most common adverse events in patients receiving these respective regimens were nausea (10 or 9%), diarrhea (6 or 5%), hypokalemia (5 or7%)

But it's not debatable that mask wearing does nothing to change that number. Even its proponents (at least those who have any level of scientific awareness about it) don't claim it does that. If mask wearing does impede the spread of the virus from one person to another, all that would accomplish on the macro-level is slowing down the process of spreading it through the population to the point of herd immunity, and thus prolonging the process and the economic costs of all these destructive social distancing measures that people are having to deal with.

I'm not sure what "medically useless" is supposed to mean, but a lot of people with "scientific awareness" have put their research in plain sight so that you can read it.

I'm not trying to say to trust the CDC but they link to the sources here in the References section which were mostly done independently of each other (link).

If our goal is to reach herd immunity, the vaccines are showing very few side effects so far and the mechanism makes sense. You make your body produce a harmless part of the coronavirus (the "spike protein") through mRNA injection and then your body reacts to it to make the antibodies that actually give you strong immunity against the disease. Giving a ton of people COVID to achieve herd immnunity that way is counterproductive to the goal of less people getting COVID and dying from it.

I want my freedom back so I am:
-Taking precautions to not spread the disease (wearing masks/staying socially distant)
-Encouraging those who can act as COVID-spreading hubs to take the vaccine
-Eventually planning to be part of those who take the vaccine and encouraging people to do so in order to reach herd immunity

With the right voluntary actions, we can get over this. East Asians are generally understanding this which is part of why they haven't been dying from COVID nearly as much as we have. (~4,000 deaths in South Korea and Japan combined, which are half our population). A lot even wear masks in flu season, completely voluntarily, out of respect for their fellow people particularly their elderly. We are over 40 times worse than that in COVID fatalities when accounting for population.

In the short term until people reach herd immunity from the vaccines, COVID positivity rates are used to justify lockdowns. In the long term, we have vaccines and we don't need to use the virus to achieve herd immunity.

We don't have any vaccines that are proven safe and effective yet. It will be a long time before we can say we do. Notice the following points:

1. That quote is not just from the CDC in July of 2020, but rather that CDC document is citing an earlier study in which that claim was made. So the operative date is the date of the earlier study.

2. Even that quote does not claim that no COVID 19 isolates yet existed at that time, just that they weren't available to the authors the CDC was quoting at they time they wrote it. COVID 19 isolates aren't available to me either, right now, sitting at my desk. But you wouldn't be warranted in concluding that because they're not available to me they must not exist anywhere at all.

3. Even if those prior authors had been claiming that no COVID 19 isolates existed yet, their words couldn't be taken as proof that none existed, only that they believed that. They could simply be wrong, in which case counter-evidence such as the link you were provided should be taken into account.

4. Even if it had been the case that no COVID 19 isolates existed in July, that would not prove that they still didn't exist now.

5. That exact CDC document has been updated multiple times since July, as you can see via a simple Google search for it, so why rely on the outdated one, rather than the up-to-date one?

6. Even if it were the case that no isolates of COVID 19 had yet been developed, that would not support the conclusion that we were lacking in proof of the virus's existence. Obviously there are many ways to prove the virus exists aside from developing an isolate of it, and indeed, no isolates of it could be attained or even sought after until after it was already proven to exist by other simpler means.
