Hmm. I thought Romney was supposed to win this one in a walk? Is his GOTV not what it's cracked up to be? Sure didn't work for him in NV. Or is this just a sample of not necessarily representative precincts?

The 2 biggest counties in CO are denver, and el paso counties. Those have not reported anything.

We lost votes in my district but it's looking good for delegates 4of the 7 were Paul supporters awaiting results for the delegate vote!!

Read the following and realize that James Dobson and Tony Perkins have endorsed Santorum. It might not mean much in a general election but in a GOP primary... you betcha!

Colorado Springs a Mecca for Evangelical Christians

January 17, 2005

When President Bush takes the oath of office this week, one group of Americans will take special pride in knowing he'll lead the country for another four years. Evangelical Christians are considered an important part of the coalition that re-elected him.

For a two-part report, NPR's Jeff Brady visits Colorado Springs, Colo., which for the past decade has been recognized as a center for evangelical Christian organizations.

Not long ago, Colorado Springs was a fairly small typical Western town with a mix of military people, blue-collar workers and a few colorful characters looking to escape city life. But today, it's a booming city that's home to more than 100 evangelical Christian organizations.

The city has become a special place for evangelical Christians, like Ted Haggard, pastor of the 11,000-member New Life Church and president of the National Association of Evangelicals.

Haggard came to Colorado Springs in 1984, and found what he calls a pastor's graveyard. Only 10 percent of the people went to church and, what he says were pagan-style religions had a good-sized following.

"The mega suburban churches weren't here at all, and there was a high percentage of New Age and satanic type of activity," Haggard says.

Colorado Springs was ripe for a spiritual transformation, he says. Dozens of other pastors came to the city, and many succeed in opening churches. Haggard's grew from 20 people meeting in his basement to a sprawling campus on the outskirts of the city. Today, his church is one of the largest in the state.

Colorado Springs also was becoming home to an increasing number of religious organizations, groups with a religious purpose that aren't churches. The largest such group is Focus on the Family, headed by James Dobson.

His multimedia ministry includes radio, television, film and video, magazines and books. Dobson's ministry centers on his, now daily, radio program, where he gives advice on family issues — and more recently on politics.

In a broadcast shortly after the November election, Dobson expressed how grateful he was that Mr. Bush was re-elected and he criticized Democrats and the media. But Dobson also issued a pointed warning to the Republican Party.

"If they get disinterested in the values of the people who put them in office as they have done in the past, if that happens again, I believe the Republican Party will pay an enormous price in four years and maybe two," Dobson said.

Evangelical leaders promise that in coming years they'll be even more active in politics. And Colorado Springs will continue to be a base from which the evangelical movement launches initiatives that affect civic life across the nation.

Gah, don't people in COlorado realize Romney would be even worse than Bush and Obama when it comes to medical marijuana?

We are talking a very small part of the population of Colorado when we discuss the GOP primary voters. Colorado has a huge number of Evangelicals in the East and Mormons in the West. So you are going to get mostly Santorum and Romney in CO, no matter what you do.

Utah had 96% Romney in '08, so no chance of Paul winning here either.

Romney 11
Santorum 5
Gingrich 3

One thing I did was hand out 'literature' which compared the candidates with a checklist as well as the campaign donors between Paul & Romney! I think this helped a lot everyone was looking at them! In the end, I tied with someone else as the #2 delegate and we had to do a coin toss to see who would get the spot - I lost so now I am #1 alternate to county convention.

Damn, tough night for Romney.

Just got back from my caucus. Here are the results:

Gingrich: 13
Romney: 10
Paul: 4
Santorum: $

My caucus vote was cast for Ron Paul.

Here’s the problem for the Romney people. My precinct was allotted 5 delegates to the county convention, 4 of the 5 selectees (of which I was one) were Paul supporters.

We were also allowed 2 delegates to the state convention, I was one and another Ron Paul supporter was the second, our alternate to the state convention was also a Paul supporter.

Not one of the 10 Romney supporters there volunteered to “run” for a delegate position for the county or state conventions. In fact, 8 of the 10 Romney supporters left before the proceedings of the caucus were over; after the straw poll and votes for delegates, there was a lot house-keeping. Of the 9 people who made speeches at the caucus (of which I was one) not one person got up and advocated strongly for Romney, even though he got the second most votes when the hands went up. 2 Paul voters, including me, made speeches, 4 Gingrich people and 3 Santorum people all spoke – the Romney folks sat on their hands and kept their mouths shut.

The Romney people should be concerned. There is a major, MAJOR lack of enthusiasm lack Romney.
