Come on people. Ryan is the Establishment nominee. They are trying awfully hard to keep him out of the spotlight most of the time except for scripted Hero moments, such as the one set up by Cruz. They don't want to over expose him, but they want to keep building a track record of him as the Party's leading light.
They even have him reaching out to the black community.
