Country music star Jason Aldean defended his song “Try That in a Small Town” on Tuesday after Country Music Television pulled it from the airwaves amid backlash.

CMT confirmed to Billboard that it had removed the video from its rotation as of Monday but refused to comment further on its decision.

Legacy media outlets and leftist social media users put the song on blast this week, claiming the anti-riot lyrics are actually “pro-lynching.”

The song has been out since May, but it gained new attention thanks to a newly released music video that has activists crying foul. Critics point to the lyrics where Aldean appears to reference anti-police rioters:

Cuss out a cop, spit in his face
Stomp on the flag and light it up
Yeah, ya think you’re tough
Well, try that in a small town
See how far ya make it down the road
Around here, we take care of our own
You cross that line, it won’t take long
For you to find out, I recommend you don’t
Try that in a small town

Aldean insists that the song was not meant to have racist undertones.

“In the past 24 hours I have been accused of releasing a pro-lynching song (a song that has been out since May) and was subject to the comparison that I (direct quote) was not too pleased with the nationwide BLM protests,” he shared in Instagram Stories. “These references are not only meritless, but dangerous.”

“There is not a single lyric in the song that references race or points to it – and there isn’t a single video clip that isn’t real news footage – and while I can try and respect others to have their own interpretation of a song with music – this one goes too far,” Aldean continued.

Perhaps no press is bad press when it comes to Jason Aldean’s controversial song “Try That in a Small Town.”

Aldean’s headline-making hit occupies the No. 1 spot on iTunes’ Top Songs and Music Videos charts as of Wednesday evening — despite accusations it’s racist and “pro-lynching.”

The song, which was released May 19, has over 3.8 million Spotify streams.

Over on YouTube, the music video, which dropped Friday, has over 1.8 million views. It also holds the No. 4 spot on the site’s trending music videos.

Meanwhile, an insider told The Post that Aldean’s performance of the song will remain in ABC’s broadcast of the CMA Music Festival, set to air Wednesday at 8 p.m. EST.

The fest was filmed June 8-11 at various venues in Nashville.

Viewers won’t see glimpses of the music video during the broadcast, an insider assured The Post.

Stomp on the flag and light it up

Because black people and minorities are infamous for flag burning. Oh wait, that's usually white leftists. Never mind.

I'm more of a rocker than a caterwaller but what he says is right, try that shit out here, the rockers, whiners, Baptists and Catholics will thump a knot on your head then go home to dinner. We may fuss amongst ourselves but throw some big-city BS in the mix and we'll come together right now.

Fuck Hollywood and their feelings.

The only thing "country" about that song and most new country music is that it is sang with the country twang. The music itself is pure classic rock. The guitar player ripped the leads on that song from Motley Crue.

Bocephus did it better.

"I'd love to spit some BeechNut in that dude's eye and shoot him with my ole .45"

I'm just gonna be brutally honest here and say, this song sucks. That's totally irrelevant to the point of the thread title, though. But yeah, I was expecting something a little more hardcore. This sounds like a break-up song.

Gonna wait for the Sturgill Simpson version.

They tried to cancel him, now he's #1 on iTunes
Jason Aldean and his music video for "Try That In A Small Town" just got taken down from CMT, as several news outlets are decrying how offensive the lyrics are. So lets break down the lyrics and the blatant hypocrisy from the left.

Yeah, I can't stand any kind of newer pop music - anything from beyond the 50s/60s/70s/maybe some very early 80s - "country" or otherwise - it's always garbagy. Not very clever, pretty unartistic - could have been written and composed by AI. This just sounds like a cheap attempt to cash in on the prevailing mood.

The correlation is that only "people of color" engage in sucker punching, looting, etc. So any anti-looting,sucker punching, etc is directed towards "people of color".

I kinda felt like there wasn't much effort put into the lyrics. The country I listen to these days wouldn't even be featured on CMT to begin with.

Parody of "Try That in a Small Town" written and performed by Remy.

LYRICS:

Open a lemonade stand on the sidewalk
Go for a long walk in the middle of the night
Keep schools open so that kids can keep on learning
You think it's cool, well act a fool if you like

Put someone's groceries in a bag
That doesn't immediately break
Don't bake a penis cake

Well try that in a large town
See how far you make it down the road
Around here we're punishing our own
You cross that line, it won't take long
For you to find out, I recommend you don't
Try that in a large town

Call the line for nonemergencies
'Cuz somebody's dropping trousers on your daisies
That stuff might fly in the country—good luck

Well try that in a large town
See how far you make it down the road
Around here we speed camera our own
You cross that line, it won't take long
For you to find out, I recommend you don't
Try that in a large town

Video produced by Austin Bragg, Meredith Bragg, and John Carter.
