TRENTON — Gov. Chris Christie is set to officially announce he's running for president in 2016, according to a published report.
Christie, the 55th governor of the state, will formally launch his campaign for the Republican Party's nomination at Livingston High School, his alma mater, on Tuesday. According to WNYC, which cited unnamed sources familiar with his plans, Christie will kick off his campaign at the school where he served as class president for three years prior to graduating 35 years ago this month.

Why?

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/ar..._approval_rating_at_new_low_in_nj_127092.html
Chris Christie’s approval ratings continue to drop in his home state, according to a new poll.

Only 30 percent of registered voters surveyed by Fairleigh Dickinson University’s PublicMind Poll said they approved of the job the possible Republican presidential candidate is doing, while 55 percent disapproved. The approval rating is a six percentage-point drop from April.

The new poll also marks the two-term governor’s lowest approval ratings since he took office in 2010, when he registered 48 percent approval. His rating peaked in November 2012 (just one month after Hurricane Sandy ravaged his state’s coastal areas) at 77 percent and has been on a steady decline ever since. September 2014 was the last time his approval ratings were “above water” (46 percent approval-40 percent disapproval).

The percentage of respondents who said they “like everything” about the governor is also lower than ever at 24 percent. Alternatively, 39 percent “dislike everything” about Christie’s leadership. The remainder of respondents are somewhere in the middle: 23 percent like Christie personally but dislike his policies, and 7 percent dislike him personally but like his policies.

New Jersey has experienced its share of problems since Christie took office in 2010, and half of the respondents in the new poll said political leadership is the biggest obstacle to overcoming such problems. A plurality (23 percent) said the public employee pension system is the biggest issue facing the state, followed by unemployment (21 percent), economic growth (17 percent), ethics in state government (16 percent), and road and bridge repairs (12 percent).

Christie’s standing with the electorate has also taken a hit since the so-called Bridgegate scandal in 2013. Several members of his administration have been implicated in the closure of traffic lanes on the George Washington Bridge in an apparent political retribution scheme. Christie has denied any involvement and has not been accused of wrongdoing.

At 24 percent, approval for the state legislature as a whole is 20 percentage points lower than the disapproval rating. A majority of respondents (57 percent) believe New Jersey is going in the wrong direction – the highest level of pessimism in the state since Christie took office.

The survey of 792 self-identified registered voters, conducted June 15-21, has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.7 percentage points.

Chris Christie is the last person I would ever vote for. I would not want him anywhere near the White House. He is loud, obnoxious, establishment, and everything bad.

It's going to be quite a blow to his ego when he stagnates down at the bottom of the polls with Jindal and Pataki. :p He has no excitement behind him at all, which would be the sole reason to jump into this ridiculously crowded field now.

I did not think he would actually run. Waiting for Walker to announce now. With Christy and Walker will that be all the GOP candidates?

This is good; Christie has shown he can spend up months building up soft support, then lose it all in a day or 2 because of something he said.

Probably. Then the press will be all about who is dropping out.

Maybe to set himself up in 4 or 8 years for a serious campaign and help the Republican party in return for later favors.

I am probably a bit of conspiracy theorist by thinking that people whom have no chance of winning have been prompted to run for the effect of diluting the field with as many establishment candidates as possible in return for some political favor.

When each establishment candidate announces they get a bit of a bump. If the Republican party can run enough establishment candidates prior to August they can temporarily bump Rand far enough down so he does not get into the debates. Candidates that are not getting into the debates are done since the national narrative will be set in early debates.
