Christian Yoga? It's a Stretch...(Is Yoga Demonic? Yes, it is.)

talk about stretching...

I grew up Christian with many people that thought like you.. In very simple, rigid terms..
That's why I moved on from organized religion as a whole.
Please stop arguing over semantics

"Resident Jew" grew up Christian?

And it's not semantics. It's an integral part of our faith. Either you accept Jesus Christ as the son of God and God as He said He is or you reject Him as a liar. It's quite fundamental.

Isn't it Catholic doctrine that others not within the church may be saved if they knew no better and through no fault of their own, but were otherwise righteous?

Recently, I was again made aware of the doctrine of purgatory. Can't most Catholics expect to spend some time in purgatory rather than going directly to heaven?

and that is why the question becomes was Jesus right when he said he was the ONLY way or was he a liar. He cannot be the truth and a liar both.

He wasn't lying because he believes that it was a manifestation of all the same god. Its like wearing different clothes, but you are the same person. That is why Hindus have so much diversity. Some of the stuff is written in stone, but mostly the way you worship is up to you.

Ever heard of Messianic Jews?

And it is semantics.. You both are saying the same thing and you two are mad at him for not saying It exactly how you like it.. End of story.

That's interesting Kotin. You converted to Judaism I guess?

Mother and father are both strong Messianic Jews but attend a Christian church since there is no messianic synogauges close to here.. Dad plays saxophone in the worship band and I myself played drums in the youth band for years..

Went to a Christian K-12 school as well.. Was also bar mitzva'd at a messianic synogauge in San Antonio

Jesus is, in fact, my ultimate role model and personal hero. The way he taught to live is exactly how we should live. The golden rule is the ultimate rule to me.

I just have a problem with the rigity that comes with organized religion..

Purgatory is not described as a place in Church dogma. It is a process in which we are purified before entering Heaven. I believe Orthodox also share this view, in that there is an intermediate stage for the soul before Heaven. Some Catholics see purgatory as a punishment, other see it, like the Orthodox as a purification and a growing towards God.

In any case, this is what the Bibles which we use to justify the concept of purgatory
1 Corinthians 3
13*each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is. 14*If anyone’s work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. 15*If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.

Of course. Not many Jews would be willing to accept you as a Jew though ;)

I'm glad to hear though that you love Christ :)

I'm not mad at him, but I do think we have a severe theological difference.

Well the thing about Christ is that you cannot really argue with what he said regarding how we should live and treat each other.. He was dead on.

That's very true. And I think the deeper your relationship with Him gets, the easier and more natural it becomes to live like He did.

Yes, as St. Paul said, they have become a law unto themselves by their righteousness before God even if they knew Him not. A loving God would not cast a child born in Africa who lived among pagans to hell because the child did not have the opportunity to learn about Christ, no matter what some modern Christians claim with certain innovative doctrines. For even a pagan child from Africa has a soul created in the image of God and knows that there is good and evil and a conscious to guide them.

Christ said that He would rather we be hot or cold (in regards to the faith) then be lukewarm Christians, which sadly, many are, proclaiming to be Christians yet living lives far apart from Him by their judgments and deeds. Indeed, those who will have received more (that is, those who have been lucky enough to be born in the Christian faith and have been taught the teachings of Christ) will be judged even more strictly then those who did not receive as much (as a result of the circumstances of their particular life, where they were born and what their parents tried to teach them).

In Hinduism there is one supreme god. The idols you think that we worship are manifestations of God. That is why Yieu can believe in Jesus because he considers him a manifestation of god.

Krishnas tu Bhagavan svayam. :)

Like I said earlier in the thread... once you understand the concept of avataras, then you can begin to understand how God is Jesus' Father, and yet Jesus is also of God.

I won't speak for Hindus. I'll speak about how Jesus presented himself. Jesus said that he was the only path. That the only way to salvation was by accepting Jesus and only him as lord and savior.

based on that the question remains. Was Jesus a liar or was he speaking the truth.

Perhaps it is my preconceptions of Bhatki and Hinduism. I will certainly look into it more closely. But that doesn't stop me hoping and won't stop me from praying for you. I will be praying that the Holy Spirit guides you towards accepting Christ as your Savior. I do not say this out of disrespect for your religion, but because I love you. And I don't just want to say this to you, but to everyone here on the forum who has not found Christ. (yes, that even includes Nirvikalpa :p ) I have prayed for you all and will continue to include you all in my prayers.

I consider myself a "Christian," thank you. I also have deep love and respect for other beliefs / religions.

And who is only him? Don't you think that if god could manifest himself on this plane of existence in one form that he can do it again. You are worshiping the body but not the spirit. That is the essence of Hinduism; the spirit and its relationship with God. Just one example of this is why Hindus are cremated upon death. It is a notion of letting go of the material and accepting the spiritual world. This is kinda hard to explain in perspective.

yet you reject the scriptures. I would like to know what Christ do you follow. The Christ of the scriptures or some other christ.

I think that's why she called herself a "Christian" and not simply a Christian. :p

But in all honestly, Nikki, I do hope that your relationship, whatever it may be, with Christ deepens and that you come to know Him and love Him with all your heart. It's hard work to put so much faith and trust in one person, and we will always screw up, but remember, through Jesus Christ all is forgiven. :)

but that is the point. Jesus said he was God and there are no other Gods beside him. He also rejected the notion of any other Gods coming after or before him.

how much more clear can Jesus make himself.
