rand keeps winning friends and influencing people

"Rand Paul is softening up around the edges...I think he's joining the club-- not in a negative way-- but becoming part of the Washington world. He's not making enemies. He's making friends. I think he's the nominee next time."

lol..

they're just doing this in case rand wins the nomination.. it's not so much about rand making friends but msnbc not wanting to make enemies

Even if you hate Chris Matthews, he's worked in Washington his whole career and he's probably pretty good at reading the political tea leaves. And I think he's absolutely right, Rand comes across as the practical, smart moderate that could actually get things done. 2016 is his to lose.

And he helps the likes of Matthews remain relevant in the wonderful world of media romper room. That's what this is about. Nothing else.

It seems to me that they have Cruz out there taking a lot of Rand's heat. It's working very well

I agree. People who think Cruz is a Presidential contender are stretching it. He is a valuable ally though.

Chris Matthews is a hack, and no friend to Rand's politics, of course. But he's been moved to occasionally give Rand a fair shake since almost the start, it would seem. Remember him completely tearing apart Jack Conway over his smear ads in the 2010 Senate campaign? Ol' Jack-off thought he was in for a softball interview and ended up getting curb-stomped -- still a cherished memory of mine.

Matthews has always had at least a tiny soft spot for the Pauls, Ron and Rand both. I think maybe their willingness to put principle over politics touches whatever shreds of the old Goldwaterite he was as a youngster still remain in him.

Or maybe he's just a hack doing it for the ratings ;)

I had to read his book 'Hardball' back in high school and I always thought he was a pretty smart guy. But his predictions oftentimes are WAAAYY off, not because he is reading the scene wrong, but just due to the nature of predictions. He was wrong on nominees the last...two cycles I want to say? I wouldn't give the predictions any more credibility than anyone else's.

Yup. I was about to say, "Wow, Matthews is still on the air? MSNBC is still on the air?" Haven't watched either in ages.

We did not need this, hopefully it is fleeting.

Oh Gad...that's probably the kiss of death.

It's just the talking points of the minute. They found a GOP devil worse than Rand-- pretty soon Matthews will be saying the same old extremist lines. But in the short term this is exactly what Rand wanted to achieve. When it comes debate time Rand can appear more moderate... He can't win the presidential election if he is perceived as the Tea Party candidate.
