They all introduce themselves as college students, talk about their commitment to libertarianism, then proceed to ask for $300 by posting a chip-in. Then they mention that if they don't raise enough money, they'll donate it to someone else who will go.
Perhaps because that's what they are, that's what they believe in, that's what they need, and that's what they will do.
I understand a general skepticism of newbies, but I have been around for almost a year hanging out in the chat. I lurk in the forum and post occasionally. I was having a discussion with a friend who also raised his ChipIn to CPAC, Yieu, in the chat on here a couple nights ago. For the length of time he's been here, he has what may be considered relatively few posts. We both said essentially the same thing along the lines of this: we don't post much because a lot of times we feel the ground has already been covered, as we'd usually just be repeating what someone else has already said. But we still here because we get news from here and enjoy the many liberty-oriented discussions that take place here on the various issues, applications of philosophy, current events, and general atmosphere.
Many others who may be unknown to you will be posting threads to help get to CPAC, including a personal friend of mine. If they all had to be board veterans, we wouldn't be getting as many activists to CPAC. These are freedom activists, who in exchange for a few dollars generous people of the liberty movement are voluntarily willing to spare, are going to take 2-4 days out of their year to be a vote in an important 2012 presidential straw poll for one of freedom's shining stars, Ron Paul.
To quote a friend here assisting me with my CPAC trip, "we take care of our own". Keep an open mind, judge individually and don't be afraid to ask questions of the individual poster if you have doubt yet are willing to donate if it could be cleared.
