China (and the rest of the world) will always need the US

I still can't buy into the hyper-inflation fear-mongering. No matter how much we fuck things up I still think the worst we can get is massive inflation, and yes I believe that will happen. But Zimbabwe style inflation doesn't make much sense.

China is a very mountainous region. Not nearly as much fertile soil as North America. It just doesn't compute. They still need our food and always will. This whole idea that China is so productive and Americans are not is getting silly. Food is the one key factor where the ball will always be in our court. And this is why they will continually buy our debt.

So that is my take. Tell me I'm wrong. But if you ever wondered why we keep getting bailed out and you ask yourself..."why the hell does the rest of the world (other central banks) keep weakening its dollar and standard of living for the US?" Well that is why. It's all about the food.

Food? Did China need our food to grow its population over 1 billion ? You may have seen China do massive currency swaps with countries such as Brazil. Many USA farmers have left for Brazil where the soil is very fertile and labor, land is cheaper.

Much of the farm land is now owned by giant corporations - ConAgra, Monsanto, et.al

So if China uses our dollars to buy controlling ownership in those companies, I think they will send said food wherever they damn well please. If you think the fact that food is produced here safeguards us from the effects of bankrupting our nation or gives us a credit card with no limit with the rest of the world, I suspect you are due for a rude awakening.

Zimbabwe style is worst case scenario. There would have to be other factors involved too. Natural disaster, or massive civil unrest could do it, as could another war.

Not. South China is and has been the major food producer for China for millenia. China has tons of fertile land.

It's all about the food.

Food is important. So is oil. So is water. Our fertile land is held up by water. Did you know the Colorado river, carver of the Grand Canyon, ends as a trickle into the gulf of California during droughts? that's how much water we consume to keep crops growing in the Southwest.

Furthermore, the American economy is heavily, HEAVILY dependent on gasoline, refined oil, and there is no indications it will even slow the pace of consumption.

So yeah, we may have food, but we will not be able to truck it from country to city, without massive transportation costs included when inflation hits. And what are farmers going to do with a bunch of inflated money? Buy more stuff?

In Weimar Germany, eventually, farmers wanted french and Danish and dutch money. Those nationalities would come in, and buy the food at half price (because of the power of their currency) and sell it in their homelands at still half price (because local farmers were not firesaleing their produce)

The scary part is, inflation has so many unintended consequences, that take real, hard, Austrian style analysis to understand... you know, what gives money value, that it is difficult to tell what all the ramifications may be.

But there is one thing that is certain. BIG inflation is coming, or hard depression.

My brother also noted that in eastern washington, tons of the farms had Chinese signs up.

Drug dealers always need their Addicts... Of the two, which would you prefer to be; The Drug Dealers (producer countries) or the Addicts (consumer countries)? When you have the money... all you have to do is buy up all the resources... that's exactly what China, Japan, Brazil, et al are doing.

I think we know the odds of who survives here.

Welcome America to the future Peasant Collectivist Poor agriculture Soviet Union of the 1900's.

American food is not so liked in the world.

My country - Poland imports from USA about 2%
but from China almost 10%

We import from USA weaponry, computer equipment and software, films, tv shows.

Best known American firms : Microsoft, McDonalds, Coca Cola.

USA is in my country also famous of promoting Jewish and zionist interests.
For example American ambassador in Poland has Jewish roots.

Food

So let's assume that the US is still the breadbasket of the world and always will be. I don't agree, but let's assume that.

How many people on this list are directly involved in the production of food?

If you aren't, what makes you think there will be a demand for what YOU produce just because there is a demand for food from abroad?

In fact, assuming demand for US farm products continues to be high as our currency collapses, it is likely that you and I will be priced right out of the market for domestically produced food. You will get to watch the trucks full of American food heading for the docks while you eat thin gruel. Much like the third world has watched trucks full of their natural resources heading for their docks while they live in the dirt.

The important question is what will YOU offer to the world or to your community?

Isn't this what happens in places like zimbabwe?

I think the difference here is that there are still 70 million gun owners in America.

That's what the Romans used to think about Rome.

Furthermore, it may have been true at the time that the world needed the Roman Empire. I don't really think so, but the case could be made. But it didn't matter, did it? They sacked their own empire anyway.

China could trash the Fed and its one devalued product, but no one can destroy us like we can.

Maybe

You think the American people will attack American farmers and steal the food? Maybe. But you can only do that once and then you either must start working the farm yourself or starve. And I don't think too many Americans are ready to start growing their own food on confiscated farm land. Especially without any oil.

The USA isn't the only place to get food anyway.... China would be much better off keeping their money and selling products to their own people so they will have an industrial age.
