Just heard him live, interviewed on C-Span's Washington Journal.

He predicted Rand to be the GOP nominee. Nice.

The history of the real life young turks towards the end of the Ottoman Empire is a fascinating read on political reform movements and modernization. Suffice to say, it's modern usage as a term doesn't imply age at all: "The term "Young Turk" has come to signify "an insurgent in a political party, especially one belonging to a group or faction that supports liberal or progressive policies", especially ones agitating for radical reform within a party." - Wikipedia

The actual Young Turks were basically fascists. Ataturk was the Turkish Mussolini.

#dumbass "progressives" who know nothing of history

Cenk Uygur is an unrepentant denier of the Armenian Genocide, and he gets away with calling his show The Young Turks (which is a homage to the regime that carried out said genocide in the name of remaking The Ottoman Empire as an exclusively Turkic Republic) because he's had a token self-hating Armenian skirt with a profoundly retarded intellect named Ana Kasparian as a regular co-host. Having personally pointed out this fact several times to people that subscribe to their Youtube channel, I can say that the vast majority of their audience is likely ignorant of most history in general, let alone what went on in the closing days of the Ottoman Empire.

Any Republican with any amount of sanity will steer as clear from Cenk and his show as possible. The guy is basically an equal opportunity ideologue fleecing idiots in the Democratic Party for money and ratings while supporting Turkey's current Fascistic government and playing apologist for a country with a lot of blood on its hands. I find it pathetic that people who whine all day about Nazis and Italian Fascists would give this guy the time of day, let alone play defense for him.

Indeed.

I'd just add that, in all four Empires destroyed in the Great War, genocidal populist movements broke out following the collapse of the ruling dynasties. The worst was in Russia, which ultimately cost some something on the order of 20 million lives. But the same thing occured on a smaller scale in the former Ottoman and Habsburg Empires. Of course the fourth was Germany, and we're all familiar with that story.

..."Making the World Safe For Democracy," eh Wilson?
