Carson drops out

Did Ted Cruz say anything significant at 4:10 or was Ben Carson at 4:45 the highlight of the day?

So what happens to the delegates he's already won? Do they go to whoever he endorses or do they become "free agents"?

They are bound to him until he officially releases them, which hasn't happened yet. Suspending a campaign doesn't unbind delegates. Once he releases them, rules differs from state to state. Some will bind them anew proportionally to the rest of the field, some become free agents afaik.

For Iowa its even else:

"[...] Another astute question FHQ has received concerns that Huckabee delegate. And now that Rand Paul has also withdrawn, another delegate can be added to that mix. What happens with those delegates?

They stay bound to Huckabee and Paul regardless. The only out for Iowa delegates is if only one name is placed in nomination at the convention. If only one candidate is placed in nomination, as has been the case throughout the post-reform era (save one contest, the Republicans' first under the new system in 1976), then all of the delegates are bound to that candidate.

Unlike some other states, Iowa does not permit the release of delegates nor for them to become unbound in any way.[...]"

Iowa's first nomination cycle with bound delegates from the presidential straw poll at the first-in-the-nation winter caucus . . . by proportion -
Rand has one delegate and if there were a second ballot, he would be on the roster.

Colorado delegates will be ALL unbound on the first ballot in 2016, like Iowa USED to be.
