Can we move to vulnerable States/Districts just to run for Congress?

Do you have to live in a certain district for a certain amount of time before being able to run for Congress? Couldn't we have some of our most knowledgeable people move to areas that will be up for grabs in 2010? I don't really care how we get people to Congress or which districts they represent as long as they're in. :D

Depends on state laws, but if you haven't lived in district for a while, you are a "carpetbagger," and we don't want to get labeled as a bunch of carpetbaggers.

I would suggest you stay there for at least a few years

Well at least NEARBY if not exactly in the district... and then live in the district for some time

ok. with that said, have we made a list of districts we think may be vulnerable between 2012 - 2016?

Anyone retiring? Anyone with low approval ratings or in a district that is shifting their political majority?

I guess it depends on how bad Barack Obama screws up the Democratic Party

Hillary Clinton did it. So did Elizabeth Dole. I don't know if they moved because the districts were vulnerable, but they moved to states they had no ties to and immediately ran for Senate.

Clinton and Dole are exceptions to the rule because of their high profile and favored status by the elite.

1) you don't need to live in the district (just the state) (Example-Tammy Ducksworth)
2) you can move to a state a few months before the nominating process (example John McCain, Hillary Clinton, Bobby Kennedy)

You absolutley can do that...most politicians do this.

Newt Gingrich did this when he was still relatively unknown. George W. Bush did this before he was really famous. Bill Clinton essentially did this with his first congressional run. This list goes on and on.

However, I wouldn't just spin the globe and pick a spot, and it helps if you have SOME connection the area. But all and all, if you are planning a 2010 run...I think as long as you are there by this time next year, you're fine.
