Can the Libertarians Get Anything Right?

The whole premise of this is stupid. Nobody thinks Gary is going to be potus. If some miracle happened and he won, he would be good at it. I don't agree with him on every issue and don't need to to vote for him. He's a good guy who means well. His and Weld's credibility will do more to advance the LP than anything since it's inception.

Oh and I got 87 on the stupid purity test. I'm a medium core Libertarian.

I strongly dislike Trump. Pretty much every single criticism I have of Trump applies to Bill Weld and more. Weld supports affirmative action, eminent domain, the Patriot Act, the Iraq War, very strict gun laws, was a big tough on crime/war on drugs guy, green energy subsidies, a carbon emissions standard, and the list goes on.

It isn't a matter of purity. Bill Weld somehow manages to be worse than Trump. The only issue I can come up with where he is more libertarian is on immigration and probably trade.

And I don't know that Johnson means well. I think he is extraordinarily hostile to anyone who doesn't hold his progressive morals. Gary thinks that Christian photographer in New Mexico should be forced a to photograph a gay wedding. I have no problem with gays or gay marriage but I don't think forcing someone to photograph two guys frenching each other is very tolerant. Johnson goes out of his way to antagonize libertarians.

Johnson hasn't said anything that convinces me he'll do one tenth as many stupid things as Clinton or Trump. The biggest complaint I see about him is he is running on the LP ticket without being very libertarian, but Clinton is a neocon and Trump is a fascist.

As for Weld, the only way Johnson wins the presidency is if the House of Representatives votes him in. The vice president, in that case, would be chosen separately by the Senate, and the Senate must choose from the top two candidates, not the top three. So, Johnson can win and Weld can lose.

So, what else you got?

No one. He is the best by default. And he and Weld were the right choices for the LP because they can get on TV and have the funds to travel.

That doesn't mean that it is a good thing for liberty if their campaign had any success. They are basically Susan Collins Republicans. I am atheist but if I am choosing allies, libertarianism has a much better chance with Christian conservatives than socialists or secular progressives. Gary Johnson is actively hostile to the group that has the easiest jump to libertarian ideas.

Some libertarianish writers.
