I've been hearing a lot lately about how Google monitors and stores search terms, and cooperates with the Federal Gov't; so I've finally decided to give it up!

I'd love to hear your tips and suggestions for good search engines that maintain a Google level of quality without adopting a Google level of state servility.

Thanks! :D

Do you have some article(s) I could read about this? I seem to remember them being one of the few search engines that stood up to the government a few years back.

And helped the CCP censor web searchs from the Chinese people. :p

I'm frustrated because it's so hard to change search engines. Google is so comfortable. I agree though it would be good for us to use another one.

It's so time consuming to rate search engines. I wish there was a place where experts in their fields could rate search engines in their fields.

every search donates some to a charity or nonprofit. I think we ought to try and get C4L or some other liberty organization set up, and just search a bunch! We could at least make some money...

http://www.cuil.com/

It was started by former google workers with the express purpose of providing an alternative to google that won't monitor your information and store your searches.

use scroogle.org to anonymously google

for searching, I use live, yahoo and lycos, results are pretty crappy, but sometimes its fun.

for email, both yahoo and google are equally spying.
